Torque on Xbox?

by Heath Rezabek · in General Discussion · 11/30/2001 (11:22 am) · 2 replies

this may have been asked already, but i'm new in town and am still finding my way around; are there any plans -- or would it be hard as is -- to design in Torque for Xbox? is the architecture of Xbos really as similar to a PC as it seems?

thanks,

Independent game developers will have a hard enough time competing the PC market. We do not see any indie company having the resources to get a game approved on the X-Box.

So, the short answer is, no, the TGE will not be available on the X-Box.

It looks as if MS is starting an indie program for XBOX (http://xboxactive.com/software/dev/softdev.php), but I would have to agree with Jeff on the fact that it would be really hard to get a game approved by MS in these early stages. That said, it does take quite a while to build a good game, so in a year from now, the timing may be right.

As far as TGE running on XBOX, I suppose it is possible since Torque can use DirectX as a graphic subsystem. At the GDC last year, I heard MS reps tout that converting your PC game would take only weeks. On the other hand, I went to a few sessions that talked about the extra instructions sets available to XBOX in the arena of graphics - that would definately take some understanding before trying to port Torque over.

And then there is sound, network, and input to consider. All of these areas are a bit foggy still as I haven't heard much about them.

Who knows, maybe someone like Monster Studio's will get ambitious and port over Torque....
