Are Maps only done using the in game map editor?
Or can they be made with an external utility?

I wish I could figure out how to get BSP to work with Torque, as I'm intimately familiar with that editor. I never liked Worldcraft much :)

Worldcraft is the preferred editor, although I've heard of people using Quark.I wish I could figure out how to get BSP to work with Torque, as I'm intimately familiar with that editor. I never liked Worldcraft much :)

In the documentation of the Torque release you downloaded, there should be a document that details how to set up Worldcraft to work with Torque.

It all depends on what you mean by maps. If you're refering to just static structures, then yes, you use WorldCraft to make them for use with the Torque (which is outlined in the documentation). If you're refering to creating terrain/environment, the Terrain Editor/Terraformer portion of the ingame editor generates those. You place the static structures on the terrain using the World Editor portion of the ingame editor. Hope that helps.--Sty

i think im starting to get it :)
So i create structures in worldcraft, export em, load em in the ingame editor and place them in a terrain...
is that right?
And how complex can the structures be? I mean... can i create a whole level that is inside a building ?

Correct. And you create the terrain in the ingame editor. It's a pretty versatile terraformer. You can import grayscale maps, create height scripts or just use the Terraformer and fine tune it with the Terrain Editor.
They can be fairly complex ... BUT it all relies on the creator to utilize the portals correctly, use LOD, and throw in a few tricks of the trade to keep FPS smooth. Just take a look at some of the buildings in T2, they had some pretty complex shapes.
It is possible to remove the terrain block and just place a city, large ship, etc. It'd take alot of planning and use of the techniques I mentioned above to execute it well.
