IGC 2005 Dates?
by Jeff Leigh · in General Discussion · 01/19/2005 (9:23 pm) · 70 replies
I know this might be a bit early for some to be thinking about but are there any tentative dates (month? dates?) for IGC 2005?
I've got several customers that are targeting the October time frame for project deliverables and I have influence on those targets to clear the way for my going to IGC this year if I can ball park some dates.

We're offering one free pass to the person who offers the winning theme for IndieGamesCon '05 - judges will be influenced by banner ad layouts and t-shirt designs...

We haven't updated the IGC site or made any official announcements, but this can stand as the official (unofficial) confirmation that IGC '05 will be held Oct. 7-9th in Eugene, OR at our favorite haunt Mallard Hall (just have to bring in more tents). We're offering one free pass to the person who offers the winning theme for IndieGamesCon '05 - judges will be influenced by banner ad layouts and t-shirt designs...

I'm in for this year, gladly. Finally got a job that will pay enough that I can save up for this sort of thing =)

@Josh: The key to more beer is to help them set up the place ;) At least, I got a few beers out of it, and a bit of excercise too...I'm in for this year, gladly. Finally got a job that will pay enough that I can save up for this sort of thing =)

Official Theme for IGC (and this one may just be the perminent Tagline):
Reinventing Gaming - Indie Style
(Consider the unofficial contents over - I guess I get to goto IGC for free this year! :)

The reinventing will not be in next-gen consoles/shaders/etc, it will be in... indie style!
God, imagine one day when indie gamemakers/houses are as prevalant as indie musicians/labels... that was awesome to get the mp3.com founder as a speaker last year.

As an HP alumnus who gags every time I see the word "invent" dangling from the HP logo, I'm a little nervous about the theme, but I'm sure I can live with it. See you all at IGC '05.

It's not just a conference, it's a mecca.

It's not just a mecca, it's a floor cleaner -- and a breakfast cereal! Man, what will those GG guys think of next?

Joshua - I love the cereal idea! Shipping with the Mac mini is cool, but what if we came with every box of General Mills cereal... hmm... back to that world domination theme again....

Michael Robertson has agreed to come back again this year - with his relaunch of www.mp3tunes.com he's back in the indie music business - who knows maybe we can see some synergy along with our re-invention (oh the buzz words we marketing guys abuse so much). Well not General Mills of course but instead some indie food business, like some niche producer who only makes organic cereal from fair trade growers and sells in independant whole food grocery stores, niche shit like that. the cd's would have to be dolphin safe and not tested on animals of course, but it could work.

I've never been to a IGC conference, convention, or whatever before, but judging from my experience with concerts and all, I know there usually are fees to attend the event. Plus, if a person/company wanted to demo or sell their product there, there usually are fees associated with that too.
So what fees will GG charge a person to attend, or sell their stuff?
How long (in terms of days) will the event last?
When will be the final register date for the event?

Early bird registration was 150 US last year, it lasts friday, saturday and most of sunday.
There have been no fees associated with showing your stuff, but then again, there is no space for dedicated booths : it's a game convention in a quite small, but oh so perfect venue, and has plenty of workstations available every year to showcase your stuff.
David, the author of Torque Show Tool Pro probably has some very good things to say about the setup.
I'm not an employee, but I've been to all 3 IGCs, and it rocks :)
