Paypal

I hear that Garagegames is working on accepting Paypal payments :) I'm very excited about this as I will finally be able to buy my license, and then I'll go buy Ken Finney's book :D Anyway, Any info on a possible date for it to be active? I need to mark it on my calendar as "D-Day" (The day I assault the beaches of "Book Store" and "Torque Engine")

Yes, this is very exciting. Paypal, in my own personal way, has been an excellent way to transfer capital. I can't wait!

Actually, we said we would consider it. However, it is very low on our priority list.

Oh, well ain't that a kick in the butt. I think you'd prolly make alot more money from people like me if you did accept paypal.

The premiere business debit card has the security code oon the back. You need to get the ACTUAL plastic card though, not the one off card numbers.
Then you can use PayPal, and GarageGames doesn't incur extra costs or expend extra effort.
If you use paypal with regularity, there's not a good reason not to go this route.

As I discovered, if you have a paypal account, and apply for "premium business plan" which either costs very little or nothing at all (been a while) and then get the debit master card you can use paypal. The premiere business debit card has the security code oon the back. Then we go bug Rick with all the ways we could make the website better and then Jay comes over and wants to know how tough it would be to add X, then I talk to Ben and we decide it'd be better to add X+Y then Rick says no we can't add that to the site. (Somewhere in there someone will tell Ben that, no, we can't put a pony in that demo.) Alex says, "Uh I don't have time to make art for that right now," Tim just froths at the mouth and mumbles something about UV mapping. Josh will then come in and say, "Hey dudes..." and I say, "You want what by when?" and then a few weeks later we realize, that won't work at all, and it ships in a few days. Then I try to figure out when I am going to finish that one tutorial I started a month ago, or start the other 3 that I need to write.
Then I play Donkey Konga. (I can pwn you at Busy Child on Gorilla)
PayPal is right now slightly below breaking down the boxes that are in the middle of this office and moving Jay's portable matress for when it's easier just to sleep here.

We usually come up with enough ideas in one day to occupy most of the full-time work of everyone at GarageGames in one day, at lunch, between me and Ben alone. Then we go bug Rick with all the ways we could make the website better and then Jay comes over and wants to know how tough it would be to add X, then I talk to Ben and we decide it'd be better to add X+Y then Rick says no we can't add that to the site. I can use my paypal account to pay for goods, and if it is important to you to be able to use the paypal, take the extra step :)

My apologies, for clarity, I meant there is not a good reason for an End User who uses paypal not to get the business level support from them, not that GG should drop everything ands support it :)I can use my paypal account to pay for goods, and if it is important to you to be able to use the paypal, take the extra step :)

The service itself is great and I often use it to recieve contract payments, and even have a paypal debit card. I guess it does little harm to make use of their services, but on the other hand I do feel I may be getting one of those technophobe casual gamers into some trouble even if its indirectly.
My wife once freaked out as she was expecting a payment from a client via paypal and got one of those bogus paypal account warnings. We had a fight over the fact that she should never supply credit card details, and certainly not her PIN#. If I hdn't been there who knows what damage may have been done.
I'm quite happy to use their service, but not sure I'm happy to offer their service on my site. Just thought I'd mention it, and if you ever get a paypal account service email and its not addressed to you using your full name, it is 100% bogus. Allways log in and check on your accounts page rather than trusting an email.

I think paypal is great, but I do worry about the ammount of malicious spam out there thats sent under the pretence of being paypal, who's sole aim is to get Bank account and other personal details off of innocent but computer naive people (not sure that was the right word but still). The service itself is great and I often use it to recieve contract payments, and even have a paypal debit card. So far most of the places I go to even larger retail outlets are taking paypal, I even bought a mac game today the did not take paypal through their shopping cart, however gave you an option to do an offline payment give them your paypal address then send the money then the admin will check that the payment has gone through a few seconds work and done, and they did nto need to modify their cart.
I myself as a web designer design a lot of carts and to integrate this would be 1/2 a days work at most, so basicly you are forcing users that can only use or willing to use paypal to go off and look for a torrent etc.

Well I have to say had a play about with a few games on the site very impressed, however as I do not have a Credit card and no intention to have one I cannnto buy from the site, as I live in the U.K you cannot accept the usual card I use to pay on line.So far most of the places I go to even larger retail outlets are taking paypal, I even bought a mac game today the did not take paypal through their shopping cart, however gave you an option to do an offline payment give them your paypal address then send the money then the admin will check that the payment has gone through a few seconds work and done, and they did nto need to modify their cart.

Equating payment options with forced piracy is an incredibly huge stretch. For the most part, anyone who is going to pirate a game will pirate it regardless of the price or payment options. They may try out a demo first, depending on the size of their pipe, but more often will download the whole game as their "demo". Payment options or high-prices do not "force" people into piracy. Rather, they provide convenient "justifications" (read excuses) for the practice of piracy.

As for Piracy, if the game is good and can justify the price I will pay for it just like these games more than happy to pay for them, its when they charge silly money its comes to piracy.
For exapmple when I has MS software I refuse to pay the silly prices they asked, however if they charged just half of it, I am sure they would get more revenue in the long run, I know I would buy the software.

Yes I read this thread when I went to try to buy a game but no paypal so i though I would check out the forum, and its been 2 years now so suspect they never will take paypal. As for Piracy, if the game is good and can justify the price I will pay for it just like these games more than happy to pay for them, its when they charge silly money its comes to piracy.

There's also plenty of free and open source games available also.

I don't think piracy is the option ever. Whether the price is phenomenal or not. All commercial software has a open source equivalent. Yes, they might have a tougher learning curve (e.g. Blender 3D, The Gimp, etc.)There's also plenty of free and open source games available also.

FYI - We do offer other payment options besides credit cards. You can currently pay using checks, money orders or wire transfers.
