Torque For Artists Development Screenshot

by Kenny Carvalho · in General Discussion · 01/18/2005 (6:00 am) · 13 replies

I know this has been posted before but i am way to lazy to look for it (as you can tell im an artist), but i really feel we need to have the 2 development screenshots on the main page. just seeing the dev is not cutting it for me at least. i love seeing peoples progress in terms of art and engine stuff. i just think there are alot of artists that want to attract programmers and programmers looking for good artists so i think haveing both shots will at least help that togetherness to happen :)

Another perfect example why it should be together is if you notice not one reply in all of the art screenshots....

im gonna be pimping some stuff soon and really feel that pimping their is just not going to get the exposure that i would want to get.

Comments are not available on art screenshots. You can post your views in the "showoff" area of the art section of the forums.

As for having both snapshots on the main page, I totally agree. I cant imagine it being that much work to add the art snapshot in below the dev snapshot.

This site is way too big to have a totally flat structure.

I agree with the 2 screenshots idea. I posted in the Art Section just to see what would happen and help build it up a little, and basically it's a waste of time because no one goes there.... and people can't comment where the image is posted, they have to through the "Showoff" thread.

I think I understand why this is though... GG wants to keep separate the "real", in-game development stuff from the purely arsty, sketchy stuff... at least that's what I'm guessing.

I too think there should be a more accessible Art Snapshot. I visit (and post) on the Art Snapshot all the time, and I still don't always remember where its located. I think there should be 2 thumbnails in the upper right instead of just the Development Snapshot. The ability to post under the Shot would be nice too.....

Well, 2 snapshots *would* clutter page quite a bit. It would probably be possible to add a text link, though, in the Dev Snapshots box. kind of cheap way and doesnt exactly take up much space.

Well then we can do a switch-a-roo. when there is an art snapshot it can then switch to that one...even if its for just a couple of hours until a new development snapshot is posted. we artits get no respect! heh

and even so alot of the development snapshots are art related anyways. importing a simple model or 2 into torque and then calling it a devlopment snapshot. so i can then post some concept art and put on a banner in torque as a texture so the concept art can be shown in the development snapshot of the day. :)

@ Jeff, making the right margin looking like the picture below probably won't break the GG site organisation, don't you think ?

There is an entire area for artists:

www.garagegames.com/mg/projects/torque1/artist.php

There is an entire gallery, that is starting to build momentum:

www.garagegames.com/mg/projects/torque1/gallery.php

There are dedicated forums for artists.

All of these efforts are to help build a community around making art for games. What techniques do you use, what are good concepts, how do you model, etc. Make Games, at the top, is about general game development. I am having a hard time grasping why people do not want to make the extra click to go into the artists area.

We have heard your request, but I don't think the art screen shot is going on the front page of the Make Games section.

Well that ^ is unfortunate :( No one in the Art Snaphots/ Show off area gets any posts.

Well post stuff to keep those threads active on the latest threads list ;)

I do ultimately understand that they only want the dev snapshot being displayed on the make games page. To stop dev snapshots being art etc, to show real development.

However this in turns means there has to be a tightening of the decisions as to what constitutes a viable dev snapshot. There is a sense that this is happening, at least in my eyes.

If I can remember how to navigate to it! :) j/k
