Ruins

If I wanted to build building ruins would I use Quark or Milkshape to do this? Is quark only for buildings with an interior? I'm still trying to figure out the difference between these two programs and why you would use one over the other.

You should use Quark.

I am trying to figure that out myself. I am not enjoying Quark. I downloaded the demo of Cartography Shop last night to look into this as an option. I have included the links just in case you where unaware of them.

Interior doesn't necessarily mean what it sounds like. In Torque, it just means buildings. Milkshape, which I also use, is for making characters, vehicles, and trees and whatever besides buildings.

I am working on some ruined buildings also. I want to be able have my buildings damagable in game.

Quark takes a little while to get used to, but it's fairly easy once you figure out what you're doing.

Quark adds "physicallness" (cid made up word) if you know what i mean. In milkshape (im assuming cause i use lightwave) it just says "OK here is a flat plane, there is no density, no elasticity, no mass, just a simple electrical pulse.

Will the ruins have roofs or will they be complex structures (like old buildings)?

If so, use Quark. If you want individual pieces of rock/colums etc. coming out of the ground, use milkshape.

Someone should write a book on Quark. I realize theres Tuts out there and all but it would be nice to have something in book format to read in bed!

Use Quark I guess...

However, note that Milkshape is capable of export .map files which can then be run through map2dif.exe... but alas, your textures will be fubar, so unless you don't mind having bland, white, untextured ruins, you had better use Quark.

P.S. Quark is infuriatingly hard to use (for me anyway) so I suggest looking into the CS and new plugin option (as mentioned above).
