Third person control and Camera.

by Phil Carlisle · in Torque Game Engine · 11/22/2001 (8:22 am) · 10 replies

I'm just working on some issues with third person camera control for analog joystick (ala Mario64 and Pikmin etc) and wondered if it would be useful for anyone else for me to write a brief tutorial on how to do it.

Anyone bothered?

Phil.

Yes! I'm very interested in testing different camera techniques, while I'm working on different gravity- and player orientation properties.

I would be quite interested in such a tutorial as I'm considering basing a combat system on the Zelda 64 technique of targetting an opponent during melee combat.

Might I suggest:
Game Programming Gems 2, Edited by Mark DeLoura
Publisher: Charles River Media

They have a section on Mario 3D type cameras. GP Gems1 also has some interesting info camera control techniques.

That would be perfect. I'm currently trying to figure out the same thing. ( I'm in WAAY over my head )

Lol. It's embarrassing to forget to check the dates. It happens... I know I've done it before. ;)

There is absolutely nothing wrong whatsoever with replying to an "old" post as long as you are on topic.

I never have figured out why much of the internet communities seem to think you should always create a new topic just because one that is on point happens to be a little old :)

@Stephen
Very true, but for the fact that the topic in question has numerous resources/other (newer) posts associated with it. And i don't think that Phil is still working on a tutorial, though i could be wrong! :-D
