Ponytail

Hello. I have a character which has 3 long "ponytails" on his head - they are really long braids with metal things woven into them--

I did a search and found some info on ropes and such, but I am not a coder so it made little sense to me.

So my question is: Is a ponytail-type dangling structure something I build in MAX with bones, or is there a real-time resource that will handle it as the character moves?

If there is a real time resource for torque for handling dangling things like this, what do I do with the ponytail when I am trying to animate the character in MAX? I mean, I still have to put bones in for the ponytails right?

I don't know where to start lol.

From looking at skeletons in MS3D I think that you have to use bones for ponytails and animate them how you want them to move.
