21-6 Productions is looking for new team members

21-6 Productions was founded in Summer 2000 and is currently working on a Torque Game Engine-based game entitled Myrmidon. The three founding members of 21-6 are hardcore gamers with significant software development and project management experience. We have licensed the TGE from GarageGames.com and are currently implementing the second phase of Myrmidon (or Myr).

What is Myr?

You will play the role of a Myrmidon and will go on missions as an active member of an underground (and illegal) army of Myr. Each mission will have primary and secondary objectives. You will be allowed to choose which mission you wish to take and can play the same mission multiple times. Each time you play a mission it will be different, which includes not only different foes and terrain features, but also different objectives and locations of these objectives, and rewards for completion of these objectives.

You will face many foes - intelligent and animal alike. Combat with these enemies, along with completion of the various objectives in the missions, will garner you experience and more sophisticated weaponry and tools. As you gain experience and improve your skills, you will find your character becoming a mighty force to reckon with.

Take a look at the Myrmidon project page for a description of the story line.

What is the vision of Myr?

The crew here at 21-6 Productions thoroughly enjoy playing games such as Asheron's Call, Diablo, and Tribes 2 as a team. Myr is an action RPG that will focus on team adventuring and RPG elements such as character building and combat. Myr will also focus heavily on mission-based adventuring. Each mission is basically a self-contained adventure in itself. Unlike MMORPG's, Myr will allow you to quickly get to the adventuring aspect of play, rather than spending inordinate amounts of time running between locations in order to get to the start of the adventure. Finally, each mission will have many dynamic elements, allowing you to play it multiple times without seeing the same mission twice.

What we are looking for in order to deliver Myr?

3D Artists
We are looking for 2 character modelers and 2 interior modelers. Concept art exists for the main characters; however they still need to be modeled, textured, and animated. The interiors still need to be designed and, of course, modeled and textured. 3D Studio (or Milkshape) is required for developing character models and WorldCraft (or 3D Studio) will be used to develop interiors. Experience with integrating character and interior models into the Torque Game Engine is desired.

2D Artists
We are looking for 1 person to create all the 2D art assets for this release of the game. These assets include detailed screen backgrounds, user interface "look and feel", HUD controls, and inventory icons. We are also hoping to enhance the look of our 21-6 web site and the "soon to be public" Myrmidon site, so developing artwork for the web sites may be included.

Programmers
We are looking for 2 programmers that will help modify TGE to support all of the unique items in this release of Myrmidon. These items include weapons, armor, energy shield, implants, and nanite injections. Development in C++ and Torque Scripts will be required so having background in either is a must. Exposure to the Torque Game Engine or Scripts is an obvious benefit.

Sound Engineer
We are looking for 1 sound engineer to develop all the sounds in this release of the game. There are no plans for music in this release, so just sound effects will be required. Types of sound effects include firing weapons, explosions, alien melee attacks, death grunts (heh), and environmental sounds (like rain, thunder, and lightning).

Why work with us on Myr?

We are a small, but serious and hard-working group at 21-6. We have significant enterprise-level software development and management experience. We are all avid gamers with a strong passion for developing games. We have met with the folks at GarageGames.com in person at the 2001 Game Developer's Conference and firmly believe that the TGE we have licensed is our ticket to the creation of a game studio and to our first published title.

If you have the time to commit to Myrmidon and wish to join the team, feel free to contact us at helpwanted@21-6.com.
