Path Duplicator with Arch as template in Quark

by Jacob · in Artist Corner · 01/05/2005 (6:10 pm) · 18 replies

I've been trying to create a tunnel in Quark using the Path Duplicator with an Arch from the shape builder as a template and there are many errors on export. As long as the tunnel remains straight or with slight curves, it's all good but once I put in sharper turns or a descent, it gets into a mess.

Here are some of the errors that come up depending on how the tunnel is shaped:

"Error, line out of clip!",
"This should never happen: 0 verts in a vis link?",
"Vislink cannot be coplanar with a node!"

In the console, while exporting I get the following:

"::createBaseWinding: Bad face on brush. < 3 points. DMMNOTE: Handle better?"
or...
"::createBaseWinding: Bad face on brush. > 32 points. DMMNOTE: Increase max win
ding points?"
...repeated over many times.

One thing I noticed is that sometimes when the "subdivide" arg in the Arch Maker is at 2 it works (even though the console still shows the above) and when I change it to 4 to get more of a rounded arch, it doesn't. I would really appreciate some help on how to create a windy tunnel that also descends with an arched ceiling - hopefully using the path duplicator because that just makes it so much easier. Thanks for any help!

Anyone? Maybe the new map2dif will take care of it...

Thats what I'm thinking... what you should do is send this to Matt and let him test it with the other maps

John, do you mean you have the new map2dif from Matthew Fairfax?

No i am using the Map2Dif that i have always had, the building exported fine but i made a few physical modifications to the model then all of a sudden it gives me this error when i try to export.

also how recent did this new Map2Dif file come out and where can i get it.

thank you

I think that it's NOT out yet but since you said "new Map to DIF", I thought that maybe Matt has released a beta version. Anyway, my solution to this was to move some things around just a bit - even 0.1 of a unit in Quark and just keep trying that until it worked. What I learned is that after every few additions to my map, I would try to export it and if it didn't work, I went back and moved the most recent additions as I mentioned above. This method could be very time consuming if your map is very large, since it will take a while to export each time but the map that I had issues with was quite small, so it was fine.

By the way, you can go to the snapshot gallery (upper right of the page that you are currently on) and look at January 7th.

Definately looking forward to the map2dif update... seems hes testing it against all the problem maps he can get and making it work against them.
