U-235 Studios New Project

Corruption, murder, betrayal, conspiracy...and that's just the opening sequence.

As a 12 year old boy you watch your father (a navy IA officer) and mother murdered. Growing up a juvenile deliquent you finally get released to freedom at age 18. Mayhem, revenge and retribution are on the cards as you set about avenging your parents the only way you know how.

We've just announced our new project which is a funded prototype for a new game (prototype due for completion in November 2005). We'd like to invite anyone interested to view our Game Sheet (http://www.deadlyretribution.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19), and also check out our website (http://u-235studios.com).

It's an ambitious project which uses the latest technologies and an engine with not only the capabilities of Unreal 3's engine, but we have the talent in our lead team to ensure the development utilises those techniques.

This is an extremely exciting project and we will be publishing a press release in the near future. We are also asking for talented people who have an interest in working on high-level games to contribute (plenty of details are on our website). We're looking for modellers, mappers, concept artists, voice actors and more.

I don't want to post the entire game description here, but the script reads like a movie and the game is geared towards a realistic 'movie' like environment with a lot of time spent on gameplay.

Your website looks awesome, and the storyline is interesting. One suggestion though, to improve the story: A bit of research on military terms. Being a former Marine, I cringed at seeing "Marine fort" in there. We have "camps"(eg. Camp Pendleton, Camp Lejeune, etc). Forts are an Army thing ;) And the Navy doesn't have an "IA", but does have CID(Criminal Investigative Division), which are the MP's for the Navy- the Marines have their own, though it works closely with Navy's CID when there's a case that goes across branches.

Sorry to nit-pick, but I couldn't help ;) Story still sounds interesting though, I always like the mystery/suspense themes.

Two other suggestions to help you out:

1) If you're looking for people, it's best to post in the Team Building section, so your post doesn't get swallowed up by other posts.

2) If you want to announce your game idea/have it critiqued, post that in the Game Ideas section, for the same reason.

Oh, and if you're interested in my modelling skills, check out my website. And I have other samples available by email...

Website has a nice look and feel.

Checked out the "Reality" engine... looks pretty awesome.... very high-poly, with lots of shader effects.

Hope to see updates on this soon, concept art, etc.

Hi Ted,

Thank you very much for your message. I guess as is common the 1st draft storyline is being written with the knowledge that we're going to have to run it past certain experts, particularly with regards to military procedures and protocol.

I'll take your suggestions on board immediately, and if you have a few spare moments and would be happy for me to run a few other q's by you that would be great.

We're trying to find that balance between intense action and an involving storyline...the problem with computer games is of course that character building has to be done carefully so you don't lose interest of the gamer. With all the work that goes into cinematic sequences the last thing you want is for gamers to just bypass them to get into the action, so we're going to be working hard to ensure our storyline is interesting and engaging. I notice on your BIO you write so I'm sure you're facing the same balancing act...in a lot of ways writing for a computer game is a heck of a lot harder than writing a short story or novelette.

Anyhow, I'd love to have your input if you're interested and have a little time. Epic Frontiers looks like a great project BTW!

Thanks Ted.

Hi Will and Matt,

Yes, we'll have some artwork up there shortly. Just getting the shaders right (our lead programmer is actually doing a lot of work tweaking and improving the shaders even further). Investigating things like dynamic parallex and relief mapping for some effects, trying to utilise existing techniques such as those which Unreal 3 have stated they are using, but trying to go a little further and think outside the square a little on where those techniques could be used to improve current methods.

I'll be pushing the team to have some screen shots up in the next couple of weeks as quite a bit of work has already been done. The project is a couple of months in at the moment, we wanted to get some substance before setting up the website and inviting community input.

Thanks,
- Will

CID.. dont forget the JAG (Judge Advocate General) sounds like a single person, but in all actuality it is a department of its own in the Nav.

@Will: Ron's right about that... he's a former squid after all ;) Feel free to shoot me an email if you have questions about the Marine side of things.

I can handle most Air Force questions if ya need a source :) And/or special forces if that comes up...from the sounds of your game, might be a bit more along those lines.
