Getting Torqued

Well, Im really thinking about getting this engine, plus the TSE engine but I have a few questions.

Im getting my development rig in january and Im wondering is the SDK a download or is it packaged? if I need to install it on my other computer, can I just come back here and download it?

Also, on TGE and TSE. Do they essentially do the same thing, but TSE works with shaders? Im still confused on that since to buy the TSE you have to have the TGE already.

Also, I saw Tim Aste's Content Pack video. Is the engine really capable of renedering that real time on a decent computer? And how easy, or diffucult is it to change the weather types like he did?

One more thing, does anyone know of any good books on programming game physics?

Thank you all in advance!

Yup. Just come back, download, and install.

TSE is TGE with a lot of major work on the rendering side to bring the engine up to the current hardware.

Yup. Tim does excellent work. It works great on my laptop, so it should work very well on your development PC.

Physics for Game Developers is a good start. I haven't read through any of the other ones, but there's a couple. Search on Amazon and Barne's and Noble and look at the reviews.

EDIT: Fixed rogue quotes.

You might want to locate a copy of Ken Finney's book "3D Game Programming All in One" to get a good grasp of what the TGE can and cannot do and what other programs can be used to create content.

Actually, Ken's book is a great beginning on what Torque can do through scripting. With the licensed SDK, there's very little that a gifted programmer cannot do.

True enough.
Norris, get the book. You'll have a much better grasp of some of the techniques, issues and skills you'll need to be successful in using the TGE.

Thanks for all the replies! Guess Il be getting both the TSE and TGE plus the book. Im pretty good at programming c++ but just not sure how to apply that skill within games. Got a great ideal for a game and with most of the models already done (freelancer done with 3D studio Max). Hopefully it all works out and by this time in march maybe, ill have some snapshots for you guys to check out.

Thanks

JUST FYI GUYS -

altho a few are using TSE as our main platform, its not for the faint at heart-some stuff is yet to be ported and some stuff you should just wait on. A good progression would be book & tge->play around alot ->then TSE when you think your ready
