V12 good for rpg?

by John Moore · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 11/13/2001 (10:16 am) · 6 replies

I was thinking of turning the urban assult game into an rpg project. Is the v12 engine good for that type of thing?

I hope so, because that's what I'm working on. =)

The only problems I'm seeing so far is that Torque (formerly V12) is geared for "missions". If you are making a quest-driven RPG, then this may work, but if you are making a true RPG, or a MMORPG, where the player can go anywhere and do anything they want, then having this mission functionality probably won't help you.

I'm in the process of removing chunks of the Torque code (vehicle support, mission support, etc) that I don't use in the hopes of getting it down to a core engine that I can then build into my RPG.

Is this a different demo than was in the 1.1.0 release?

If so... when will we see it? :)

Yes, it is a different demo then the one released with 1.1.0. No more programmer art! :)
