Problem on Mac OS X

I can't get the game to start. I downloaded the game, decompressed it, and double-clicked ZAP. It started bouncing in the dock, but then disappears.

I tried three times, starting with a different default audio input device each time (internal mic, line in, and isight) but no dice.

And from the console:
can't open library: /Users/garinh/Library/Frameworks/OpenAL.framework/Versions/A/OpenAL (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
Which is slightly odd, since there is no garinh on my computer!

What version of OSX?

Ok, that is wierd. The Mac audio input thing was something we crammed in at the last second. We'll see what is up with this. We do have a few Macs here that are running it.What version of OSX?

As if you needed it: one more ditto. I'm on 10.3.6 and I don't have a garinh on my system, either. :) (Um.. or OpenAL for that matter).

I realized that when I got my new computer I hadn't installed OpenAl.
Works great now that I have.

I had the same problem (on 10.3.3). The icon bounced and quit. I downloaded OpenAL at http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=97 . Seems to work now.

Incidentally, you've marked globals.h for project inclusion. It's in Contents/Resources. Not all that interesting, though.

After installing OpenAL, it works. Sorta. The sticky keys problem is just awful, though. What are you using for input, Event Manager? ;-) This sort of thing shouldn't be an issue with GetKeys() or HID Manager.Incidentally, you've marked globals.h for project inclusion. It's in Contents/Resources. Not all that interesting, though.

I switched to the WinXP machine to try it out -- fun! Reminds me of many long hours spent on NetTrek.

Pat -- I'm on 10.3.6. I'm a TGE owner so I'm pretty sure I've got OpenAL installed. Now that I think about it, I may have it local to TGE. I switched to the WinXP machine to try it out -- fun! Reminds me of many long hours spent on NetTrek.

I copied OpenAL from my Torque/Release/example/ folder into the /Zap folder -- no change.

Urgh. Ok. We'll have to look at this monday.

If you're getting the no-launch thing, take a look in Console; it will tell you what's missing. It wants OpenAL in ~/Library/Frameworks or /Library/Frameworks. It's possible that only certain OpenAL builds will work. (Framework binding is much less tolerant than Shard Libs under OS 8/9. Bad Apple.)

It seems to occur when using the keys and the mouse at the same time. If I only fly around with the keys and don't touch the mouse, everything works. But the problem seems to occur when the mouse is moved rapidly and the key is released. Especially with relative controls.

It's been a while since I had to deal with this but (if the license allows) you can include the OpenAl framework within the .app bundle. The whole has to be linked accordingly, you might have to relink OpenAl for inclusion in a bundl, there was another option i think there is a good starter explanation in the MOKit library http://mokit.sourceforge.net

OpenAl is the problem here, it was not installed on my system, after installing it the game runs fine.
