Tse Crash
by Greg Szemiot · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 12/07/2004 (8:05 pm) · 18 replies
Everytime I try to start up the demo exe (after a sucessful compile) my computer screen goes dark, like it's switching resolutions, and then it restarts. Same happens for a bunch of other TGE/TSE demos available on the GG site.
I have an AMD Athalon XP 1800+
1024 Mb or Ram
a 128 Mb VisionTek Radion 9100
DirectX 9.0c SDK with Extras
Visual C++ 6
and Windows XP Pro (no service packs)
Any help is appreciated.

I have the current drivers...just downloaded like 2 hours ago

Seems like something that will require a little debugger time.

I'm just at a loss as to what to do (but I got TGE up and running again, I don't know what's it's problem was) TSE still cuts out on me.

only thing i could find on ati under 9100 was a intel motherboard job which seems a bit rubbish. does it just go back to desktop if it is it might be ATI drivers VPU recover setting kicking in and trying to restart its self , so disable that it does more harm then good usually . umm if i think of anything else ill get back to you.

Hmm i know that the 9200 is just a renames 8500 with directx 8.1 and shader 1.4 support make sure that its not trying to run a high shader model ( dunno if tse will pick up on that not had the chance to try ) only thing i could find on ati under 9100 was a intel motherboard job which seems a bit rubbish. does it just go back to desktop if it is it might be ATI drivers VPU recover setting kicking in and trying to restart its self , so disable that it does more harm then good usually . umm if i think of anything else ill get back to you.

Okay, I had problems with Half Life 2 running as well until I switched the Driect X SDK to use Retail versions, but TSE still crashes, and I still have no idea why. I seriously need help :(

After TSE dies there should be something useful caught in DebugView.

Switch back to the Debug libraries and download DebugView from http://www.sysinternals.com . Go to the Control Panel and set the Debug Level for D3D to the right (highest level). Run DebugView then run TSE.After TSE dies there should be something useful caught in DebugView.

Another to check is that you have the latest motherboard drivers.

The thing is TSE doesn't die itself, it kills the whole computer...the entire PC restarts when I try and run TSE
#12
But first I'd check the motherboard drivers.

DebugView can log to a file as well so you can check it after rebooting. But first I'd check the motherboard drivers.

First off 3dMark05 wasn't working, I found the problem with that starting up was using the Debug drivers. It ran fine with the retail drivers. And I also got the TSE Demo to load and run (again, using the retail drivers.) But TSE itself doesn't load with the retail drivers, and the debug drivers just crap out and cause my PC to restart. WTF? I've updated my chipset drivers, and I've finally gotten the official VisionTek drivers for my vid card, the latest (Dec 2004 -- 9.0c) DirectX SDK, and this is still going on...I have no idea how to fix it anymore, I'm taped out of ideas.
