Is learning game development or working in the industry all fun?

There's a billboard all over Portland for the Art Insitute's two game programs (art and programming) and in huge black letters it says "ACTUALLY, IT IS ALL FUN AND GAMES."
It's also in their marketing (website, etc.). I keep meaning to post a digital photo of the billboard but for now this will do:

What do you guys think -- is it misleading or not? Is learning game development, or working in the games industry, ALL fun and games actually? Does this have anything to do with the ea_spouse story?
Thoughts, opinions...

The other alternative is that I can almost definitely get a job at MS, which is not idea, but there I will most likely have job security, decent, if not great, pay and great benes.
I'm sure it varies between company and team, but I'm not willing to take chances. I've already been laid off once as an engineer and there is no such thing as employee loyalty anymore. For my kids it will just be a sweet myth of ages past...

Does anyone have advice on which game dev cos are decent to work for in the Washington Seattle/Bellevue area? I will be graduating soon and man, I have to say that the horror stories I've read have really turned me off from wanting to get into game dev. I think its simply a catchphrase that is sort of countering the whole 'stereo-typical attitude' of a gamedeveloper
GameDev: Hard work today...
Gamer: What do you mean, all you do is play games...no work...?
GameDev: No I don't, its tough lot of work to do everyday...
then they come in and say their catchphrase...IMO its just marketing :P
