Intro & hello; pointer to discussion of next-gen Torque terrain

Hi! just joined in, after some years of pondering throwing my lot in with Torque. Mac developer, more of an artist than coder, with strong ideas about the game i want to create. i also have immense interest in landscape rendering, having been a huge fan of the Myth games for years. i still think Myth III has the best terrain rendering out there, but i'm biased by my love of the game.
doing an intro mainly because i'll be checking in here a lot thanks to terrain interest. also, wanted to provide a pointer to the thread about Torque Shader Engine's terrain support. about halfway through i start in on the terrain rendering issues of most interest to me, and quickly get an education on the direction things are headed: towards procedural shaders and normalmaps and away from hand-drawing. i log my opinion on all of this, and a plea for the Torque folks not to throw out the baby with the bathwater when it comes to terrain rendering and the lust for normalmapping & shaders.

"TSE Scene/Terrain Questions"
i'd really, really love to hear any other terrain enthusiast's opinions on this issue, either over there in that thread or perhaps here where we can geek out on terrain in earnest.
