Garage Games sales?

Hello,
I am currently laying the groundwork for a startup independent game development team, known as Chimaera Entertainment. I have substantial gaming experience, having been an avid fan of computer games--specifically adventure games, and more specifically, the "old" Sierra's products--since childhood, but I have little business experience and wanted to get some basic knowledge of the entrepreneurial spirit. So, I enrolled in a class in entrepreneurship at my university.
As the semester winds down, I'm writing a business plan for my potential new venture, in case I decide to take the idea somewhere. GarageGames has a somewhat similar business model to the one I have in mind for Chimaera, so GG could, conceivably, be one of our competitors. I'd like some basic information on GG's sales.
How long has GG been in business?
What's its sales volume, both in units and in terms of revenue?
Thanks,
Luke

Hmmm... Why would GG give info to a potential competitor?

Luke - good luck with your enterprise and I invite you to please feel free to do your business research elsewhere. My advice would be to consider reading up on business partnerships and strategic alliances - one of the many tools an entrepreneur will need to have.

It's even extremely difficult to get approximations of active accounts/total sales of most games, much less specific information from a particular company.
Don't take the posts the wrong way--just realize that it's information you need to put some serious effort into finding (read that as a lot of money to get a custom market survey done by a marketing research firm), or do some serious months of digging on the web.

@Luke: you're going to get a lot of resistance trying to get information like that from companies, especially when you identify them up front as possible competitors, precisely because the information is so valuable! It's even extremely difficult to get approximations of active accounts/total sales of most games, much less specific information from a particular company.

Just as a clarification, it's far from definite that I'd be founding this business as a business per se. I of course understand that this is sensitive information and wasn't really expecting to get it from anybody this directly. More research for me. :-) As far as giving the information to a potential competitor, that was a lack of judgement on my part, and I apologize. However, if my business ends up competing with GarageGames, it won't be for several years at least, so there's no need to worry about a "new kid on the block" just yet. Also, we're far from sure if we'll even be able to grow it into a full-fledged venture. It's an idea, nothing more.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

1) Those numbers relate to games sold by developers who are not GarageGames, and who don't release sales.
2) It's not as high as you're probably thinking.
3) It's 99.9999999% certain that it's protected by an NDA with someone.
As far as how long GG has been in business... GG can answer it better than I but I think they started around '99/'00?
I'd like to thank Luke as well... ;) kidding...
