I cannot promise that he would offer the same deal (I've known the guy for a long time, so he cut me a deal), but stop by Xilogix and see if anything catches your attention. Keep in mind that they charge NO setup fee, as long as you keep the server for the initial term (according to the specific package/server).

If you are actually in the market for a server setup of some sort, send me an e-mail and I'll refer you directly.

I don't know if any of you guys have heard of www.servermatrix.com but they have the best service and value I've ever seen.

Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz
1 Gig Ram
1500 GB bandwidth
10 megabyte connection to the internet
(non cogent)
dedicated server

is only $109 a month w/ $199 setup fee

We're paying $99 for each 1U with 100 GB of xfer per month at Corporate Colocation in downtown Los Angeles. Very low latency and excellent ping times. Nowadays you can do even better than that, too. We recently did an online chat event with thousands of concurrent users (but not a game -- very little bandwidth per) from that facility with zero problems. I'll have to check out servermatrix.

Seems like someone should make a set of php scripts to create a Torque lobby system. The lobby could handle user logins, rankings, and tournaments. You could spawn dedicated servers as needed with php's system() call. And use Perl's POE to make a simple chat server, with a Flash or Java chat interface.
