Day Night and Lighting Pack

by CdnGater · in · 10/27/2004 (8:49 am) · 25 replies

I was wondering if the Lighting Pack does dynamic day night like some of the resources on the site?

if not, does anyone know of any problems integrating the two?

Thanks

Hi guys,

The day/night resource is not really well suited for true day/night cycles or for use with TLK. During IGC this year I announced a new TLK based day/night and environmental system, you can check it out in my latest plan:

My project had implemented the Celestials resource available here on TGE, and also tied it slightly to the RTS-SK so that our mini-map would update (see screenshots above).

Without a doubt John's day/night kit when it becomes available is the way to go however--we'll be ripping out our added resource and adding his kit as soon as it is available.

@John: Need a test project for the rts side of things? :) can offer up your own dedicated server account and svn access if you like ;)

I seem to have celestial working fine. there's some things it doesn't do like terrain shadows and DTS problems that have to be worked around, but it works as well WITH the lighting pack as without it. I don't really understand the problems you guys are having I guess.

I'm doing the 1-semester senior project thing though so I can't keep switching up my engine. I'm so far behind I really can't change the enviroment or anything any more. :-(

next time i guess.

Hi Stephen,

Sure thing as soon as private beta testing starts on Night Cycles I'll contact you. It was awesome to finally meet you at IGC.

Hi RavenSlay3r,

No problem, if the resource is working well for you stick to it.

The biggest problem with the resource is that the day/night cycles also dim the SG static lights. If anything you want the static lights to turn on during the night and off during the day, which Night Cycles allows you to do. Night Cycles also does a lot more outside of day/night cycles.

FYI: I submitted an updated resource. If your reading this thread it might be worth a look-see.
