Split screen?

Did anyone figure out how to do multiplayer split screen ala halo?

How about multiple gamepads? Anyone mess around with getting input from more then just gamepad/joystick0?

Multiple GUI Viewports

But I hate playing on a split-screen for anything other than co-op. Any strategy is taken out of it since the other player knows where you are at all times. It works very well for co-op play, though.

Wow, how did I miss that?

More importantly, why isn't that post in resources? I did a search on resources with "split screen" and came up with nothing. Is it possible for anyone to submit a thread as a resource? I think that thread should definitely be in resources...

btw, I'm looking at split screen for co-op play although I have tons of fun playing competitive halo with my friends split screen...

I found Halo to be one of the better console shooters in split-screen, but that's more because most console FPS's bite than any real accolade to Halo. Compared to a lame bout of UT on the PC, Halo pales horribly. Or just about any FPS on the PC. I believe the key reason is the split-screen filling the other players in, since it's been a long-time problem with console shooters like Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. As much as I love GE and PD, split-screen pretty much killed the multiplayer fun factor for me.

EDIT:
As to why it's not in the resources, I'm not sure. It seems like something that would be handy for gamepad or joystick support (split screen on the keyboard has bit since day one, especially when playing with siblings). Try to implement it with the current HEAD, and do a writeup. Then submit it.
