IGC 2004 Synapse Gaming Lighting Pack Announcements (Part 1)
Hello fellow Garage Gamers!
Last weekend at IGC 2004, Synapse Gaming made several exciting new Lighting Pack announcements and demonstrated a lot of cool new technology. I'll be releasing the full details of these announcements over the next few weeks. Now, on to the goodies... :)
Lighting Pack for TGE 1.2
Synapse Gaming is proud to announce version 1.2 of the Lighting Pack, which simplifies integration, adds TGE 1.3 and full DirectX support, and introduces new lighting tools for rapid and efficient level design. The powerful new tools allow faster mission re-lighting when tweaking light properties by creating advanced light groups and adding flexible interior light map options.
Lighting Pack for TSE Tech Demo
Harnessing the power of TSE's shader engine, the Lighting Pack for TSE adds realtime lighting and shadows, true volumetric lighting and fog, and the new Lighting Pack Shader Library for fast and easy development of custom lighting shaders. The Synapse Gaming Lighting Pack for TSE builds on the current Lighting Pack's visually dynamic lighting models, powerful modeling tools, and high performance rendering.

Some of the Awesome Games and Products using the Lighting Pack
Today's cutting edge indie games and products are developed with the Synapse Gaming Lighting Pack. By providing powerful and innovative new tools, the Lighting Pack puts the resources necessary to succeed in your hands.
Many of the games and products on display at IGC use the Lighting Pack, such as GravRally, Lore, Extreme Dodge Ball, Micro Warrior, Kill All Robots, Tim Aste's Interior Packs, and Looking Glass, to name a few.

Take advantage of the opportunity to enhance your products and pickup the Lighting Pack today!

Yes, if you have a TSE license and a Lighting Pack license you'll automatically have access to the Lighting Pack for TSE.

If I were gay, I might be inclined to kiss you. But since I'm not, I'm throwing a hearty handshake your way. I'll probably purchase tonight. Thanks again.

Looking great! I really wish that I could have been at the IGC to see the demo in action. I would have also loved to have seen Looking Glass. But alas, I can only enjoy the afterglow.
@Jeff
I think it has something to do with the "too good to be true" fear in all of us. It was like the broo-haha over the licensing change. While it actually helped real-world distribution of indie games in markets such as Real Arcade, people jumped up and down, shouted, and shook their tiny fists at the idea that something was changing without realizing that it was for the better. I think a lot of the problem comes down to the horror stories about the industry from professionals that have gone indie, and people are expecting at any moment to hear that GG is becoming the next Vivendi. They license an engine...and they're a publisher...there must be some kind of hidden catch. It reminds me of the vague posts you read about a game idea that start and end with "I don't want to tell everything here because someone will steal my idea..." We hear these horror stories of publisher/developer relations and it makes us paranoid. I don't know if there's any real way to combat it.

GG has to be economicely focused to stay alive, and it has to take decisions based on that. That's what I think when I hear stuff that's almost "too good to be true".
Both TGE/TSE and the Lightingpack are worth every penny though, so cheers again for making all this happen. :)

David Blake expressed in a good way what I was thinking as well.GG has to be economicely focused to stay alive, and it has to take decisions based on that. That's what I think when I hear stuff that's almost "too good to be true".

@ John Kabus - Thanks for the clear answers. My money hits the bank saturday morning at midnight, by saturday afternoon, I plan to have your pack installed. Looks to be a great value.

@ Jeff - Dude, I trust you. I trust GG. I just wanted a more clearcut answer on the issue. To me it just didn't make sense to need a lighting pack for TSE because our understanding was that TSE's lighting would be more advanced than TGE's. Now we have answers that make sense.@ John Kabus - Thanks for the clear answers. My money hits the bank saturday morning at midnight, by saturday afternoon, I plan to have your pack installed. Looks to be a great value.

Will you be releasing what you where able to get working in the Tech demo? Right now I have a demo done for TSE and I want to send it to investors. But it doesnt look very good because all my DTS objects are the max ambient lighting, I can't get them to light properly with the rest of the levels.

Hi Brice,
Sorry, but the Lighting Pack for TSE Tech Demo was something I whipped up in two weekends while I was working on IGC marketing material and getting ready for the trip. Needless to say the demo is very rough, dirty, and highly unoptimized, however it does a very good job of showing the direction the Lighting Pack technology is heading.

Thank you for your reply by e-mail.
I think I did not explain our problem clear enough. Let me describe our problem again.
We have been developing game with TGE 1.3 without Light Pack.
We would like to attach Light Pack with our developed TGE.
But when we down loaded light pack 1.3 and 1.3.5, it seens that it is disovled into TGE.
We were able to add code directly with older version of light pack, but it seems it is not possible with new version.
My point is that I would like to us existing TGE and add Light pack to the TGE, I hope you can tell me how we can insert Light pack into the TGE which we are working with. Or if it is possible, could you tell me where can I down load older vsersion of Light Pack.
Thank you in advance and looking forward to hear from you soon.

For more detailed instructions we'll need to create a thread in the TLK private forums, and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Certainly, adding the Torque Lighting Kit to your project is easy - just check out the Migration Guide for details (I think I mentioned that in the email). For more detailed instructions we'll need to create a thread in the TLK private forums, and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I was wondering that is it possible to get a copy of older version of Light pack, or if it is possible can I get 1.3.5 without TGE?
At this stage, we need only Light pack just like older vesrion.
Hope I can get them.
Thank you again.

@John: I wasn't able to see it exactly in the videos: Are there self-shadows on the Orc?
Torque Owner Eric C. Tomlinson
So we can purchase the TGE Lighting Pack and just download the TSE when it comes available? Without additional output? Oh my team is gonna love this one.
Thanks
