Question on Rights To Kenneth Finney

by Anthony Bissell · in Torque Game Engine · 09/29/2004 (8:20 am) · 4 replies

I just wanted to start by thanking you for writing such a fantastic book. I have been in the market to find one of its kind for quite some time.

Now my question, which I'm sure some people have wondered is, what are the restrictions of the copyright that you put all over your code. I have see it and I have also seen your reference to using the code in making our games. I by no means intend to use all or even most of the code from the book, I'm revamping everything to make it applicable to myself. I just wanted to know the restrictions that copyright set on your code is. I understand all that apply to torque and I don't need a reminder of that, though it may be helpful for others.

thank you for your time and again for this book being produced.

Anthony has asked about copyright on the book script; I have a similar question about the models and textures included on the CD. Can all Torque script and content in the book and CD be freely used, modified and sold?

I couldn't find a post on this here. And like everyone else says, it's a very helpful book - a good resource.

thanks-
Paul

You can use any of my copyrighted programs, artwork and other resource material in the book for anything you like. It would be nice to get a mention or a credit somewhere :-)

However the book itself, and its text copy and artwork is also copyrighted, and subject to copyright law, as described in the front matter of the book. You can't photocopy large tracts and give them away, for example.

But as for the CD stuff of mine: scripts, models, art, terrains? Go right ahead and use it.
