Radeon 9600XT problems

by Stoffe · in Hardware Issues · 09/20/2004 (3:02 am) · 4 replies

Im in the process of developing a demo in toruqe.
But since i switch gfx-card from Nvidia to ATI, i get significant fps-loss. It seemes as if its due to very large objects in torque. I have about 200+ fps when there is only playermodel (6000polys 4 x 512x512 map) and landscape on screen. But when I turn around and look at some of the very large objects on our map, the FPS drops down as low as 1 (and even lower).

Ive tried about 5 Diffirent Catalyst drivers, all from the newest 04.9 to some very old ones.. still the same problem. The GFX works great in games like Doom3 and Battlefield Vietnam.

Anyone know what this is all about?

I was about to buy a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128M Video Card, and so your concerns caught my interest. Did you ever solve the problem? how many MBs does your 9600xt have?

I have a Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB and don't have any problems with it and Torque.

I use a 9600 XT and am currently working on the forest pack with Ben. The tree models are not nearly that high, but we have a crapload of them on the screen at once and I do not see any out of the ordinary behavior. So I'm not sure what the problem was, and I'm not sure if it's been fixed, but I don't see it :-\

You ran the exact mission with the Nvidia card and didn't have the problem? How about differences in RAM between the two cards? And how large are these very large models in polycount and texture?

I have a Radeon 9600 128MB in my laptop and haven't seen problems yet, even with some inappropriately large model textures (1024x1024).
