@Burning: I'm afraid you're not allowed to paste entire articles to the public. They want people to come to them.

You can just type the address into google and click the "If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link:" link.

They must have some referer check that lets you view thier articles if your coming from google.

Right.

The gist of the article is basically that the commercial game industry is stagnated for new ideas due overwhelmingly to only supporting sequels and pre-existing intellectual property for games based on movies, etc. This is very sympathetic to many of the challenges indie devs face, obviously, and in fact the article goes into these issues in surprising detail for a 'mainstream' article.

@Burning: it is a fairly large article and pasting whole thing here is not something I'm not comfortable doing. If it isn't worth registering to view to you, then this thread is not for you. :)

Right.

@Stephan: Although your 'comment' pertaining to the article is vague, I'll go out on a limb and suggest that you took this quote out of context . The point being made is that out of the top five selling games, only Halo is based on original intellectual property. The others cited are based on pro sports licenses, a sequel game, and a Pokemon game.

EDIT: Dern quotes!

@Ed Harris:

Well, that might be correct. It's based on it's own intellectual property sure, but that's hardly the same as original.
