SpeedTree in Torque

by Brandon Pollet · in General Discussion · 09/15/2004 (11:12 am) · 9 replies

I just saw that there has been up update to the SpeedTree line over on gamasutra. I was wondering if anyone had used Speedtree in Torque? Do you have any impresions, screenshots, or feedback?

I've seen people with it working in Torque, but I can't recall where I saw the thread/screenshots off the top of my head. If I can locate them I'll let you know. It definitely is possible (but a lot of work).

There was a posting I read just a moment ago, I can't remember the title off hand, but it was a new MMP and the site it linked too was in Chinese, but in the screenshots it looked like they used SpeedTree, and damn it looked nice. It's great I found this thread before posting to see if torque supports this natively or not either. I just bough the engine a couple weeks ago myself and am still reading through the documentation... but it's so hard to follow.

Just so you guys know, Ben Garney has a forest pack coming out fairly soon. The pack isn't meant to compete with SpeedTree-- it doesn't do all that SpeedTree does-- but it will be much, much less expensive and has a bunch of great tech for efficiently rendering large, dense forests.

What does www.opusgame.com use? Their trees look nice ... I mainly like their water though. I try to keep an eye on their development, but their site is almost impossible to read for me :P

If you mean that game with the screenshots, then look at my last post. Looks like speedtree to me, I think Dark Age of Camelot uses speedtree also.

Gabor Forrai's team also had speedtree implemented and running along nicely. But as far as I know the team disbanded recently :/
