Lookde.dsq & head.dsq?

by J.G. · in Artist Corner · 09/11/2004 (10:07 pm) · 4 replies

Hi everyone,

I am using Lightwave 7.5 and the LW2DTS exporter from www.gnometech.com

I am having trouble with exporting the lookde.dsq and the head.dsq

My root, forward, back, side, fall, land, and jump are all working in show and the game. Just not the lookde and head.

It seems the arms are getting all twisted and the
body pose reverts back to the original "devinci" pose
I made my model. I discovered that if I save a transformed version of the mesh in the root pose, then
the lookde. and head begin to work somewhat. there are
a few bones bending. but then all of my other animations are all screwed up.

any help or suggestion are all welcome.

thanks all,

Hi Phillip,

I will go back and look at exactly what I did for this to work.
I have the older scene i have to load and look at.

I can tell you this,... That what the lookde.dsq and head.dsq look like
in the show tool isn't what they will look like in the game.
Also, if you are getting the devinci pose with just the arms and flopping
and head going up and down at different angles in show, It should be fine in the game. I think the max files work a bit different than the Lightwave files.

anyways, I will see what exactly i did and get back to you tomorrow sometime. I have made so much headway, that I can't remeber most of the
hurdles I have jump. There are so many....hehe.

P.S. Off the top of my head,...I do remember having to have the base node/(character object) pos and rot checked. i couldn't get it to work with just the
nodes that should move/rotate.

BTW: is your charcter using dsq? or is it all part of the dts?

have fun,

How is the weather over there?

OK Phillip,

Quick note:

If you are using DSQ files to animate your character, make sure that
- EXPORT animation sequences - is NOT checked when exporting your DTS!

OK, this is what I selected for the exporter:

Seq name - lookde
Export as a blend sequence
Blend referrence frame 0 (some people use frame 2, but I had better results
with frame 0)

NODES
- BaseNull P,R,
- eye P,R,
- cam P,R,
- (Object Node) P,R,
- (Any other nodes that move/rotate) i.e - shoulder, arms, hands, finger,
etc. Make sure both P,R, are selected even if the P(osition) doesn't
move.

That is it.

Do the same for Head.dsq file.

Make sure you lookde, and head dsq use the frame 0/ default pose and only
the nodes that move are changed. Even though you are only saving out the changed nodes, if the legs moved in the sqeuences, the dts was still acknowledging the keyframes for the unsaved nodes. wierd stuff, so i just played it safe and didn't move anything other than what i had to.

let me know how it works. If you still have trouble, and you don't mind sending me the files/scenes. i will check it out for you.

hope this helps,

have fun,
