3rd person shooter video

by Eric Hartman · in General Discussion · 09/08/2004 (9:55 am) · 27 replies

So every month or so I abandon my old torque project and start a new one. I am aware of this fact... But heres this month's!
Its a 3rd person, 3d side scroller with mouse controlled aiming. You point your character with the mouse just like a first person shooter, but you move relative to the camera like a side scrolling brawler. Game play involves shooting people. There is no reloading, when you run out of ammo you must drop/throw your weapon and pick up another.

I just got some weapon handling stuff working, check it out

@tyq.fk - I'm just using first person mouse controls that come with the engine. The only difference is the camera.

There are some resources for selecting objects by clicking on them:
www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=2173
and
www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=4146

You might be able to adapt them to make the player aim wherever you click.

That looks cool. Looks like you need a better 3rd person camera though. Perhaps we could help each other out. I have a sweet 3rd person camera.

It can be in a set position and track the player.
It can follow the player at a specified offset, although it "flys" around so its not in a static offset.
It can follow the player is its aset distance away, if not just sit there and tracks the player.
It can follow a specified offset from the player and track a different target.
It also has godview in it.
It also has automtic checks for certain situations.
All controled via script.

Its a heavily modified advanced camera, BTW.

The crowbar needs a little work, though

@Chris: You need the Divx Codec, which you can download here

Is that supposed to be some kind of put-down? I actually messed with it some recently, added some more weapons, made stuff explode www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=B9E6PsQ2gis
