Help with Hammer and saving files?

I followed the hammer setup info on here but each time I save a save/export to the folder "C:\torque\example\starter.fps\data\interiors\new" the files just save as a .file.
But if I save/export the file to "C:\torque\example" it works fine, but map2diff then can't find the texture.
Can someone please tell me whats going wrong?

I don't like Quark, spent 10 mins playing with it and gave up.... too hard to work out.

Just so you know, Hammer is not licensed for TGE while Quark is open for use. GG has stated quite clearly in the past that they will offer no support for Hammer, nor will they market any program that uses Hammer for moddeling or mapping. So the few hours or days you invest in learning Quark would be very well worth it in the future if you plan to get serious with this.
Think about it, do you want to make all your models with hammer and then have to remake them all over again using 3ds or Quark? Or would you rather just learn to use Quark now and move on knowing that you aren't going to have to redo everything in the future and that you are safe to market your product?

I must say that I prefer DeLeD over QuArK, but have not found the equivalant of Hammer's 'Carve' tool in either app. There was talk of Valve opening Hammer for Torque devs, does anyone know where that has gone/is going?

Trust me on this, unless GG themselves posts a news article stating that Hammer is now legal for TGE dev, I would steer VERY clear of it. Bottom line is, it's not worth the hassle UNLESS you have no intentions of trying to sell your game. If you even remotely think you will want to profit from your work, you don't want to even get started with Hammer. Just accept they way things are and move on with it. You'll be much better off.
