Gothic Map with LightingPack and GothicTexturePack support

by Sven "RaCooN" Knie · in Artist Corner · 08/22/2004 (12:02 pm) · 11 replies

For those who reads my plan already knows.

I'm on a little sample map.
This map should be a showcase for our Gothic - TexturePack, also it's a workshop map to diggin into Synapse Gaming's Lighting Code Pack which is a amazing extension for the TGE, but like all other tools this needs practice and what could better be than a goal-oriented "workshop".

To the Map facts:
The map backround is an ancient gothic stronghold. It will be small map with 3 floors, there are stairs and lifts (okay wooden lifts ;-). I think the map will be good for around 4 Players or 8 if you want to open the doors of hell.
The stronghold will be dark, so everybody have to watch out for dark corners.

Here some first Shots

From time to time I will post some updates into this thread.

Yes, it's dark. I like them anyway, they have a Quake feel.

Goth rocks, keep it up!

Its to dark if you can't even see your weapon/crossbow in the screenshots.

Give me a flashlight and a shotgun! Quick! I think I hear an Imp!

Shit, in Game the Level is bright enough to play and even to see the own weapon :-(.
Even at home I can see details on the shots, okay I make it a bit brighter.

Nice! Content packs like these save a tremendous amount of time while creating games.

Awesome work Sven, I love those textures!

A ha! The Sven is applying the "Carmack solution" to video game lighting issues! Make it so dark that they can't be seen.

ps. (For those who think I'm ragging on John C., see the Gamespy video where he talks about darkening the video so that he hides some of the issues that arose in Doom 3.
Of course, I am ragging on John C., but that's only because I'm agnostic and John is a GAME GOD!)

pps.(And sven's pack up there is good enough that he deserves some "game god" credits. Really nice work.)

Run over to their site and get whatever you can, while you can. These guys won't be freelancing for long, someone's bound to hire them out from under us.

Thx to all for the comments, I just learn to handle the lighting.
It seems to be a sharp edge between atmosphere and hide-and-seek ;-)

@Pat,
where, who, is an Imp. I swear, I'm just found this flak cannon. Even i didn't use it more then 10 times at this moment ;-) hehe

@David,
never ment to blend out something (or did someone see our fancy stuff I want to hide ;-))

@Josh,
the whole map will be a toture chamber and the guy right behind you with the awesome weapon in his hand will be your personal toture master. watch ouutttt......

@Erik,
I don't think that we get stoping with doing content packs, of course we work for others too and we work on several own projects, but this won't stop us to fill up our webshop with hopefully good and affordable packs.

So and now some ne Pics with brighter lights
