Arcade Dev Pack

Hey

Right now I'm trying to learn to model in 3d. I'm thinking that the best way to do that and spend my time is to give it away to the community.

Here is the first machine.Click Here!!! Also on the website is an information kiosk with a "you are here" like design. The skin wouldn't work right, so the place to put the you are here is a red cross. I haven't decided yet if I will do an awesome skin for all of these, or just keep it like that and let you do it. It will be destributed (If at all) in the .3ds format. Nothing will be animated.

I decided to leave off the buttons because it was just too damn hard to get them to be at the same slope, x, y, and z angles.

Looks good...

Did you use anim8tor?

Yea I did...

Here's the plan for the pack (And all of the models for the machines are around 100-500 polies) (The Classic Arcade Machine is 231, which I will cut down today).

I will add a similar machine, but with a roller ball in the center of the panel for the controls instead of the joystick.

Then I will make a simple pinball machine, Air-Hockey, and a racing arcade machine (starting at the most simple, moving to the most difficult in that order)

I will add 10 extremely simple human models (5 boys, 5 girls). The reason as to why I want to make so many is to change the girth, height, and hair. Also, I will do 20 human skins (If I can learn how) with different clothing and colors (10 white, 10 black).

In addition, I will do 30 ground textures for the inside of an arcade and 15 for the walls (Including Ceilings).

EDIT: I finished the roller ball arcade machine and got both that and the classic arcade machine down to fewer polies. The classic one is now 214 and the roller ball machine is now 118. I will redo the kiosk for the arcade set, because it was my second model and it looks like crap... ;)

Nice!! The joystick on the first picture looks a bit high polygonal compared to the rest though. Good job.

Thanks a ton Stefan!!!

I'll get cracking on the pinball machine today.

Yeah... The joystick is very high poly (about 100), but that was the only thing I could do that anim8tor would support. So unless I stick with modeling for a few more years and purchase 3DS Max 6 (or whatever) or someone could buy it for me (Just a low low price of $3,055 ;) ) I will have to keep the poly count on that and the roller ball up.

Sound like a cool pack. You should give that arcade machine some cool textures, and make some debris(like the joystick).

Well, it does have a joystick... I also updated the site to show another 2 models... The pinball machine (97 polies) and the Roller Ball Machine (118 polies).

I'd say that those are pretty good numbers for polies.

If anyone would like to help me/teach me how to skin these machines, I would be very grateful. This will be given away, so unfortunately, I'm unable to pay anyone.

I still have 2 more machines left to do. They are the most difficult. I may need help and will have to get back to you guys on that. A little later on, I will work on some people.

I may also do a counter, with and without glass look screen.

They will look cool in higher resolution and great textures

Good news. I just finished the air hockey table and I re-did the info kiosk. The air hockey table is 163 polies.

The new kiosk is 15 polies, where as the old one was 14. It really looks a lot better this time around. It also took about 15 seconds to make the new one, but the first time around it was my second model, so it took me 20 minutes. ;)

The website has been updated again.

P.S. Pretty soon I MAY add transparancy to some glass things, like the pinball machine top.

Blender's ok. I just think that it's too clumsy and the interface seems weird.

Not that anim8tor's perfect. If I had the source to anim8tor I'd change a few things, but I don't so I have to live with it's imperfections. I know that blender comes with the source, but I'd have to change too many things for it to be worth my while. I like anim8tor, and I'm gonna stick to it until I buy 3DS Max... Thanks for the input though.

I also tried GameSpace Light. This is by far my least favorite modeling program!!! Working that camera is just too much of a hassle. Plus I find it too difficult to work with.

Here's a list of things I have yet to do:

-Racing Arcade Machine
-10 Human Models (5 boy, 5 girl)
-28 Ground Textures
-11 Wall Textures

Anything that you could find in an arcade. Any sort of thing like plaster... etc.

That ground texture in your picture looks perfect though... Do you have any other textures like it? I'll give you credit in the readme file if you donate anything.

Please send all of the files to: videodragon20032003@yahoo.com

Thanks. They look great. Much appreciated!

YEA!!! I FINISHED THE RACING MACHINE ALL BY MYSELF. The wheel looks kinda screwy, but what can you do? You can see it on the website. (www.freewebs.com/random1234)

Very nice. Can't wait until this is finished. I thought about making my own arcade pack a few months ago but never got around to it.

Well, it's gonna be finished much sooner than I originally planned.

I'm taking out the human models and skins. I'll release the Arcade Development Pack SOON!!!

Who here wants to put some of the models and textures in Torque to see if they work??? I'll include their names within the credits. All I ask is to see screenshots of them within Torque.

The racing machine is 200 polies.

I'm so close to being DONE!!!!

Joseph Greenawalt was nice of enough to export all of my .3ds to .dts. (He's still working on it) He also made .png images to keep the skins you see in the pictures on the website. He added bounding boxes, and I think he even tried putting them in the TGE. Thanks so much.

I'm pretty much gonna cancel the textures. I've got a couple that work within Torque, but the more I look at them, the uglier they seem. I'll still keep some, but just enough to get the arcades rolling (Which after all was the purpose of the pack)

In the meanwhile, I'd be interested to join a project, to learn the ropes and become more experienced. If you would like to help me to skyrocket through the indie game making world in 3D Art, now's the time. If not anything else, I can design the game, or at least what's left to design. My work (Designing) is very detailed, and I work quickly.
