Street Lights

by Casey Wylde · in Torque Game Engine · 07/22/2004 (8:35 am) · 11 replies

I'm tying to create realistic looking streetlights but so far all I've found was the default fxlight. any suggestions on how this can be tweaked to simulate what I want?

Probably the most efficient way is to do it is to pick up the Synapse Gaming light pack.

Hi Casey,

Adam is correct, the Lighting Pack allows you to create spotlights that illuminate interiors, DTS objects, and the terrain.

Here are a few snapshots showing the Lighting Pack spotlights in action:

The pack has many other features the full list is available here.

Hope this helps!

John, and everyone. I spent over a year with another engine, from which I learned a lot but the Torque community is amazing. The quality resources available are outstanding. I'm not developing for commercial purposes so these low cost alternatives are great. John, and people alike, keep up the tremendous work.

I'd also like to put in a plug for 3D Game programming All In One in case any newbies happen to read this. The book should be called 3D Game Creation All In One. Yet another example of the amazing resources available to the community.

There is but only one problem I see with this book:

From what people have said, it sounds like something I am willing to... nay... something I believe I MUST invest in... and yet I cannot find it on Amazon or any of the libraries or any of the other sources I have tried here in the UK. I was even looking for a PDF version but could not find it.

Does anyone have any idea where to locate this book in the uk without importing?

I think if you read the forums and resources you get much better and up to date info then the book can give you. I would say it may be good if you are completely new to the idea of game design in general but do not expect it to teach you much. I made that mistake and every time I think there would be something in the book that would show me how to do something I was wrong and had to look to forum digging and resource diving. alot of people seem to like it though so you do not have to take my word for it. I just have not even looked at the thing in the longest time now because I already figured out more then it teachs just by looking through forums. :) I LOVE THE GG COMMUNITY

The lighting pack on the other hand seems like something that would definitely be worth the money. I just wonder if it is still needed with the Shader Engine.

EDIT: This is just my 2 cents I do not mean to offend anyone. And I do not mean to bash the book either I know that it has been helpful to alot of people I just feel you have the right to know about things before you purchase them. The Book would be good for Intro to Torque no more no less. :)
