Hi guys,
As much as I *love* FilePlanet, you can nab a full, free version of a game called Ground Control here.
Ground Control is a visually stunning, frenetically paced real-time action strategy game of war, secrets, and distant worlds.
I took a look at it (never heard of it before) and it's like an RTS version of Halo or UT2003 (if I had to describe it). Set the in the not too distant future (like we've never heard of that before), there are two groups fighting each other with typical futuristic weapons, vehicles and whatnot.
PC Gamespot gave it a good rating (8.5) and not a bad game to play. So if you're looking for a diversion for a weekend, here's a cheap one.

Unfortunately, even the free version via Fileplanet that doesn't include the GCII demo is still 457 MB. That'd burn my poor lil USR 56k up! :)

I got the GCII demo with the latest MaximumPC--it's a pretty cool game. Unfortunately, even the free version via Fileplanet that doesn't include the GCII demo is still 457 MB. That'd burn my poor lil USR 56k up! :)

GC has always looked cool. GC2 just came out and looks even better-- have to pick it up once I have some semblance of free time again (ie, 5 years from now when GC2 is released for free as well). ;)
Seriously, thanks for the heads-up. The GC series gameplay seems like a nice change of pace from typical RTS stuff.
