non-exclusive publishing?

by David Bull · in Torque Game Engine · 10/07/2001 (3:55 am) · 2 replies

I was just wondering, does Garage Game publish games non-exclusive (meaning I can publish my game with multiple publishers like Real Arcade), or can I only publish with you guys? And I'm not using the Torque engine. Although I must say you guys look like the most promising for "garage" produced games.

I'd like to add a second question along the same lines. What are royalty percentages like if we're using an engine other than Torque?

Actually.... What I would love to see is a legal FAQ for those of us using engines other than Torque.

We are still working on our third party, non-TGE game publishing philosophy. Once we launch with a few outside titles, we will have a better idea of what this effort will take and how much we should charge.

One thing I do know. Whereas we will make no content judgements, except adult content, on TGE games, we will be picky about which non-TGE games we publish. Our intention is to make GarageGames known to gamers as the place on the internet where exclusive, creative, and fun content can be found. If the same game can be found at Real, Shockwave, and Yahoo, then we don't have a lot of desire to publish it.

While we are completing our ecommerce, we have rounded up some exclusive (at least for a certain time period) content that is indicative of the type of game we hope the GG development community will strive to create. If you would like to be part of the initial launch, have a unique title, and are willing to give us at least a two month exclusive, then email me at jefft@garagegames.com. This initial launch of our Player's site will get a lot of PR, and will bring your product lot of attention.
