I use several packages to create music for my stuff, but I can't provide a recommendation without answers to the above! :-O

Insufficient information for a meaningful answer. Things I'd need to know: do you want MIDI or audio out of it? Do you want it to run physical instruments (ie. rackmount tone generators, external synthesizers) or virtual instruments? How experienced are you at composition? How much/little do you want to spend?I use several packages to create music for my stuff, but I can't provide a recommendation without answers to the above! :-O

2) Audiograbber supports wav, wma, ogg, mp3, download the lame dll to support bitrate 320 This is freeware but excellent IMO extremly useful all around.
3) Adobe Premier 7 is also useful. Let's you match up all your audio effects with video. If you plan to do film scores this is something I recommend. This has a lot of audio capability. Less than $100. I bought it for around $74. Well worth the price.
There are probably cheaper programs but I can't recommend any of them.
I would also consider purchasing Sound Forge if you can. Its not cheap but its a great digital audio program.

Ed Averill, I wan't MIDI out of it, and virtual and physical instrument support would be nice, it should cost between 0$ to 500$

There is a number of top-notch programs within your price range. Let's start with less expensive.
CM Studio is almost complete music generation/recording/editing program. Supports VST plugins, ships with a number of of those free (at least 4), fairly easy to use. MIDI instruments support somewhat quirky. Strond sound editing/effects capabilities (via plugins). Cost Free/$13.95 (Buy a copy of the CM Magazine, it is on accompanying CD every month).www.computermusic.co.uk/about/aboutvst.asp
Next in the line is Magix MusicMaker studio. Again, has all of the features of the soft studio (virtual instruments support, loops, sampling, multitrack recording, etc), comes with 4 CDs of sampled instruments. Cost is $80.www.magix.com
My personal favorite is FruityLoops Studio. For game music it is more than plenty. FLS has everything you might need for music production, from sampling, looping to sound effects, and includes output in almost any format: mp3, wav, etc. Support for RedBook standard. FL sequencer is $100, (does NOT include sound editing/output). FL Studio $150 has everything, including multitrack recording studio.
Another wonderful program is Reason, but I could make myself spend over $300 for a music program. Reason is a professional quality soft studio, with lots of bells and whistles.
