"Toon's"

Well after 2 years of ownership and after making numerous T2 maps and Ut 2004 maps. I have decided I am comfortable enough to make my first game.

It will revolve around 6-8 different maps (unless I get more done) all with a cartoonish type feel.
Eventually I want to publish with 16 maps..
I am going to make more "contraption" type weapons, ie a device that shoots out balls under pressure, and have them bounce around a bit.. :)
and a bubble maker, and so on... each with its own source of ammo.. a tube of balls for the ball shooter, bubbles for the bubble shooter.. :)

the object will be to gather some type of icon.. ala Sonic.. maybe a time limit race event were each player has a set time to gather as many as possible..
when a player "dies" he will merely shrink to nothing.. sort of a imploding or such.. and all his inventory will hit the ground for the others to grab..

I am mainly going to get a working first level and a few weapons done and then start the coding.. if the demo plays well I will go forward with more maps.. :)

here is the first oen I have started.. I call it Daisy Island.. :)

When you say "toonish" you mean cell-shading? (cel?)

Are you sure you want your level to be that small? Are the levels going to have any interactability (such as that volcano exploding or going into the volcano and going through underground tunnels to collect your icons?)

Well with the time limit thing and the size of the map, I dont want too big of a map.. so you dont get lost..
I am going to work on something for the volcano.. maybe flaming rocks or something to shoot out from the top.. :)

I dont know about the tunnel part but I am adding more shapes, like a hollowed out tree trunk and some bridges and things.. and maybe add in some other things.. I am just fleshing out the main level and then start the coding.. and since i dont know how to code yet it will be the longest part.. :)
I want to add full bot support also so I will be spending alot of time working on the engine too... :)

Cool looking art!

Looks very Mario-inspired. You'll probably want to uncap the lighting values to get more vibrant, saturated colors.

Thanks.. :)
I started this week and am trucking right along.. :) I know in a week or so I will hit the wall.. but I wont stop.. :)

home.comcast.net/~r.fenimore/daisyisland.jpgI got stuck on the weapon as I dont know the proper way to export the nodes in milkshape.. or if it even will...
oh well I can still make other things.. :)

It's pretty easy. You put a couple of joints in the model, one for the mount point, one for the muzzle, and you're ready to roll. Maybe one more, I don't remember exactly since it was a year since I did it. I'm sure you can find a tuturial in the resources section.

There are tutorials for 3ds max, but nothing on milkshape.. if I can figure it out I will post one, but right now I am not sure.. there is one on modeling so maybe it is the same thing.. with the joints.. :)

Ok! well to say the least I wasted 3 days on a exporter that will not export.. :)
the new improved exporter for milkshape wont export the weapon.. it will fault out when mounting.. ughhh.. so i went to the original one and it works.. woohoo!

weapons will commence ASAP.. :)

Oh and the map looks small but the player is like 1/6 the size of the coin right now..
I intend to make the player model the same ratio as the coins.. :)
