Sierra Bye-Bye?? and Whats the Vivendi story?

by Stephen Clark · in General Discussion · 06/21/2004 (1:40 pm) · 42 replies

Ok, maybe nasty effed-company rumor, but I figured someone here would know for sure: is sierra gone!?! As a local business and makers of good games back in the day I will be very sorry to see them die, although maybe their time was done long ago...

Also, what is the whole story with vivendi? I saw jeff's post, and I read something else about them doing layoffs and some french paper about the dudes in custody. Someone care to explain the timeline and elaborate?

From infogrames corporate website

"On May 7, 2003, Infogrames officially announces its name change to Atari. The Company?s U.S. operations became Atari, Inc. (formerly Infogrames, Inc.) and changed its trading symbol on the NASDAQ National Market to "ATAR." Although the holding company parent in France, Infogrames Entertainment SA, retained its current name and maintained its symbol on the Euronext under the code: 5257, all of the Company?s worldwide operations were renamed Atari. The Company gained all rights to the Atari license when it acquired Hasbro Interactive, Inc. in December 2000."

However Atari's parent company is still Infogrames Entertainment SA. So basically they just bought the company and now use the name.

And yeah ... Nicolas pretty much summed up my feelings on Lonnies post.

This is a litte on topic , off topic but I felt this is a good place to say it.
If your gonna buy HL2 when it comes out in a couple of weeks, please buy it through steam. It cuts VU out of the picture. I know that either way there gonna make money but it really ticks me off what they did with Sierra.
And the fact that the Sierra name still sits on top of HL2 ticks me off even more since the company is not even there any more.
Screw VU.
