Hey

My artists where looking at TSE and where wondering if it supports Normal Maps or if it would be something that the programmers would have to add in ?

cheers

Yes, it does. You know those metal plates in the demo? They are a plain steel texture with a normal map on it. All the indentations, etc are from normal mapping + specular

Related question: Is there a max 6 version of the ATI .nmf exporter? Or another tool for creating normal maps from a high detail and low detail model?

@Eric, NVidia has a Max normal mapper available for download. You can get the source and compile it yourself if you've got the Max6 sdk.

ATI has a normal mapper tool with a 3dmax and milkshape plugin

I used NVIDIA Melody to make a normal map for a low poly model from a high one. However I didint leave it at that. After i obtained that normal map, i ran it through the photoshop normal filter to adjust height etc. Then i took my detailed texture and ran that through the photoshop normal map filter (this gives some extra fine detail). Then i took these two images, and places them on seperate photoshop layers, giving the top layer (txture detail normal map)some opacity. The result is extra geometry detail, and super fine detail from a texture in a single normal map.

Here is a sample: www.gameshots.co.uk/geometry_and_texture_normal_combined.jpg

Why not? It looks like either an MG-42 or a M-249.

Maya6 can now generate normal maps. Also note that the Nvidia generator requires a FX or higher card to work
