Low cost? more like high cost.

yes, thats right, i said it doesn't make sense. This engine is sapose to be for low cost for the people who don't have a high end budget to be able to make the games. however the only thing the cd gives you is the coding, a obj converter, a world craft plugin for making maps, and a 3dmax plugin for making the models, oh and i shouldn't forget about the little funky demo on it too.

Now, looking at basic costs for the various program that you need to be able to use this engine, your looking at pumping out close to 2000 dollars. Not to mention the time the people would have to spend learning the programs. Low cost? no, not if your pumping out 2000 just to be able to use it.

The thing that really blows me away at this is, there bosting about the abilities you'll have if you buy the cd, but don't mention that you still need a compiler to compile the coding, don't mention you need to get worldcraft 3.0 to be able to use there plugin, and don't mention that your restricted to using 3D Studio Max for making the models, and even in that case your probably limited to using 3.1 R2 of max to be able to utilize there plugins.

Nice catch for something thats sapose to be low cost. No real tools included except a obj converter, which, is dos based, and really basic. I've seen Free engines like the Radon Labs Neubla engine (www.radonlabs.de/)that are more complete then this one.

Nice try guys, but, one thing i really hate doing, is waisting money on something that falsely blows up peoples hopes and makes them think there at least getting a package that they could use without adding on a ton more software, expecially for 100 bucks, i'd expect a little more effort from you.

Note: This is my opinion, and may not reflect the opinions of others.

I have been unable to get my models into the torque engine even though I have a variety of high-end software (for 3d animation/modeling/texturing). The 3dsmax plugin doed not work with my version of 3dsmax (i dont want to update it because I use maya), and the milkshape exporter is not at the point of being complete.

All I can say to you guys who think you dropped 100 bucks on something you cant use is just wait. The GG guys (and members) have done a massive amount of work on this just to get it out so we can play with the code, and it's a bit rude to rush them, when you can see they are spending a lot of time and money on this. The website does say that Torque is a work in progress. I have complete confidence in the guys at GG and I know that they will work hard to make it so that just about anybody can use torque. This is just the beginning of the long haul. A year from now torque will have so much documentation and tools that even a complete novice should be able to use it, after all ease of use = more sales = more publicity.

The Nebula Device is very nice but i dont think it has any networking built in like torque does.
