Action/RPG game needs a name.

Before you jump on me, it is NOT a MMORPG.

Its a smaller, community based action rpg game. If you're familiar with the Tribes RPG mod then you're familiar with the kind of game I'm trying to make here. I worked on the TRPG team making textures and a few buildings for a while. Then later I worked with at least 2 teams trying to make a sequel in torque. Well that all fell through (though i think theres a T2 rpg mod now). Anyway, I'm rekindling the project by myself.

But I need a good name! It might not seem important but its kind of hard to keep saying "that action/rpg game i'm working on in torque thats kinda like tribes rpg" and working titles tend to stick.

Previous names for this thing:
-Ironsphere
-Sons of Valor

Here are some screenies. Not much to see besides eye candy but there is code there. I've got character creation, saving, and login working and i'm about to have the first working prototype of the inventory system. Also you can see the seperate clothing and texture changing code i've added.

Telling us a little about the setting or storyline would help. ;)

Just pick some word that's pivotal to the game and add the word RPG if it's primarily an RPG.

Maybe you should call it "[word] Action RPG" or something.

Storyline? Setting? You're supposed to have those?

Yes, fine details like location, timeframe, technology level, general atmosphere, that sort of thing would really help. :)

Eric: A name like "Dragon's Hoard" wouldn't really work with a CRPG set on a spaceship where the player's goal is to prevent it crashing into a sun (and in which there were no dragons whatsoever).

Conversely, a name like "Starfall" wouldn't fit a fantasy CRPG set in a quasi-medieval world where the player was supposed to grab phat lewt from a huge dragon without getting incinerated in the process.

Besides anything else, you need at least a rough idea of the storyline and setting to know what type of graphics, models, sound effects and music to create.

From the screenshots you posted you could call it "Legal Secretaries on the Loose!" :)

Just kidding - good looking shots there, but yea, having an idea of the storyline would help people give you name suggestions.

Is that character generation thingy made in script and GUI, or does it require code changes?

RB: Haha, that's what I was thinkin' too.

Yeah, like the people are sayin' ya gotta tell us what we do in the game, otherwise, it's pretty useless to just ask us to figure out a name, when all we've seen is a couple of ladies with weapons out in a field. (which BTW freaks me out)

Otherwise, I think that character generation thingy looks really cool, and I wish you best of luck with your game.

Haha yeah I've gotten the "Mrs Cleaver Goes Medieval" comments before, thats just my style. I'll admit I haven't thought the story thing through very well. I'm starting with the gameplay mechanics because thats what I feel is most important.

The timeframe of the game is your standard sword and sorcery medieval type thing but with a more modern, lighter twist. Things are a little nicer than most games. Buildings are well constructed and maintained. Nice clothes are available. High explosives have been discovered, but no one has figured out how to really make use of them. Rumor has it that wise men in other lands are working on flying contraptions (DaVinci style stuff).

There is evil on the frontier, though. People fight the evil for fortune and glory. Also, sometimes people fight eachother for sport in public arenas. Also, I'm not above sight gags and popular/internet culture references for comedic effect.

Basically, its the spaghetti western of RPGs.

I'm a one man team, So I've only created the female player model so far. I've also created some swords and shields and the crossbow you see there. Also theres this port town I made a while ago that I'm using. It has some scale issues but I like the design.

@Thomas Glennow: The character creation thing required code changes. I hacked in a method for changing IFL animations individually so I can set the texture for skin and hair and clothing seperately. Also I added mesh hiding capability to change faces/hair/clothing without mounting objects (theres a resource for this). I also added some extra animation threads to the player class to use as custimizations.

I used guiobjectview (resource) for the creation screen and added support for scaling, multiple animations and the other features that I had added to the player and shapebase classes.

From there the creation screen itself is just a few sliders and some script functions.

I worked on Sons of Valor for about a month before it went kaput. It was unfortunate, but I think there were a lot of project management issues (that seems to be the main one that kills projects).

A story and a setting go a long way to fleshing out the artwork, but it's a game design document that you need in general. Otherwise, all you have is flashy code. Advertise for a writer/designer.

Smell of empty souls? Smell?? Unless its a wrestling game featuring the rock, i dont think any game should have smell in the title. :D

From the last screen you posted I think Tides of Betrayal would be a neat name
