TSE driver issue, I think...

by Erik Madison · in Torque Game Engine · 06/12/2004 (7:27 am) · 8 replies

Lacking a public TSE forum, I'll post here.

In a nutshell, I'm getting a pure pink screen in the TSE demo. I can see the buttons and the sky at the end of the demo, but that is all.

AMD 1800+
512 ram
Geforce FX 5600 Ultra 56.72

Reading every post I can find, it appears lots of folk are using the fx5600. Its not a great card, but I do have the ultra which is supposed to be a bit better than the base model.
I've tried forcing 1.3 shaders and I've double checked that all driver settings are app controlled.
Any thoughts on what to try next? Thanks

That's a wierd one. I have pretty much the exact card and configuration, and didn't have any problems.

Do you have directx 9 installed? Any possibility of an old driver still installed/configured?

Try playing with the quality/performance slider?
What OS do you have?

Directx 9.0b, WinXPpro. I tried with all sliders in the defaults, and also with everything turned as low as possible.

Hmm, I didn't do the official Nvidia driver upgrade method, I simply installed new. Although everything else, including all other games, works great, there is a chance I've left old fragments around. I'll try the official uninstall/reinstall in safemode...

Nope, no go. I uninstalled all display drivers, rebooted, and installed 56.72. Same thing, a big pink screen.
And I thought DeusEx2 was a picky SOB...

Did you try using Driver Cleaner, Erik? If you just installed on top of old drivers, something may have got borked and persisted even through an uninstall and reinstall.

Okay, I did run driver + cab cleaner, following the instructions to a T. Same thing, lots of pink with a gui overlayed. I see something in the console, but I don't know if it would be the fatal cause or not. Its trying to look for 2 more nvidia.cs files.

Nope, those files don't matter.

Very mysterious. I know Brian is working on this problem in particular, as we're beginning to suspect it isn't a driver problem. (Or else, it's some sort of subtle driver related issue that isn't a bug, just different from other cards.)
