Tribal IDE Reborn!

Hello all,
I have been using the excellent jedit plug-in for editing .cs files until I sold my computer for a slower laptop (not too good of an idea in hindsight.). Running a java app on this machine is painfully slower than I thought, and there are some more features I would like to see. I am a professional Delphi programmer by day, and managed to get the Delphi source to Tribal IDE.

After spending ALL NIGHT finding and installing components for it I have managed an error free build. I had to make some minor modifications, and I am not certain if the components are the exact same as the aurthor originally used, but It does appear to be in good working order.

I present to you "Tribal IDE - Cambone Edition Alpha"

http://www.geocities.com/xagon7/Tribal.zip

That is a geocities link, so you will need to copy and paste it in your browser.

I simply got a wild hair somewhere and felt the tingle, nay, the desire, to extend this program to fit my needs. Tribal always seemed to have some minor annoyances from making it GREAT.

This build (3.0.9) is simply my compilation of the original sources with new components. I am asking anyone interested, to please try it out, and make sure nothing is way out of place or not working.

Now for why I did it in the first place. I have some improvements I would like to make, and would love to release them to the community. I will also put the source on sourceforge, or at least in a zip file on the Clownkeep site, along with the numerous free components, and some better instructions, all packaged nice and neat. A few components were missing, but I think(hope) I found the right ones. ;)

If you have any requests for Tribal IDE changes, please post them, and I will see what I can do.

Thanks

The point I am making Cameron is that what you do have is the right idea and an excellent product. Especially for an Alpha and especially considering that it is component based and written in Delphi.

I have used Jedit and TIDE and am more than a little dissatisfied with the way it looks, works and in general feels.

I would much preffer to work with a script editor developed exclusively for Torque, not a plugin in to another editor, which half the time has a tendency to fail to load.

If the troubles you are having are due to it's being written in Delphi then rewrite the thing in C++, I know they are completely different languages, but the product as a whole is not all that complex when you think about it.
Using a toolkit like QT, the whole thing couple be completely prototyped in a couple of days, and your looking at a few weeks to finish adding functionality.

So please don't give up on it, I know for a fact that if I am willing to pay good money for a final copy of it, that several others would be as well.

TribalIDe was written by another person, I am not the original author. I simply managed to get a hold of the source and get it to compile. You should try the original for a more polished version:

As far as JEdit., take a look at the look and feel settings, make sure you have the latest JVM, and really take some time to learn the editor, I think you will find it is MUCH more flexible. The abbreviations are awesome.

As for it being a plug-in, that is part of the beauty, one can leverage the many other plug-ins for a programmer's editor. I have already made modifications to the TIDE plug-in. It is already on sourceforge.

I am very sorry, but I won't be working on TribalIDE any longer. I do have the source code, and am willing to pass it on to anyone who is interested. Or you can get it here:
