Looking for advice

I'm new to game design and programming in general. I just purchased the TGE and have downloaded Quark, jEdit, OpenAL, and a few other programs. I also have 3dsmax 5, Adobe illustrator and photoshop, and Visual Studio 6.

I know the best way to learn what I need to know would be to take classes, unfortunately, I don't have the financial resources or time available for that.

My best friend and I want to make a RPG based off an old pen and paper game. We have the creative resources taken care of, but lack the knowledge necessary to put all our ideas into a windows based game. My friend will be taking care of all the artistic and 3dsMax work, and I'm left to figure out all the programming.

I know that before I can really use the engine and tools, I need to learn all the basics about programming. If anyone has any suggestions on where I can get some good online tutorials, please post them here or email me at Jakk_Bekwen@hotmail.com. Or if you have any advice for a beginer, it would be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I would recommend getting the book 3d game programming all in one. It starts off vary light and its using torque for an engine. So you will be learning torque script as you go. Its a great book.

Ben - Thanks for the book idea, I work next door to a book store, so I'll check it out tomorrow after work.

Joseph - I'm going through the tutorial now, it seems promising. I'll post my personal experiences with it when I complete it. Thanks for the info.
