Forum Sorter

Just had a thought about improving this forum with added featuers like printer-friendly view, sorting by (poster, replyer, last modified, last viewed, creation date, etc) Just to make our daily forum usage more organized. And please keep an offline copy of this vast online resource in the GG server, alot of links don't work anymore, and many best of examples are gone because some user's file hosting server is gone, and many quesions thus have to be re-asked, and possibly not replied anymore. Just a thought. Any other suggestions?

But Ben's point is good, implementing those features takes manpower, and we definitely don't have any to spare at the moment. :) In the future though, hopefully. For now, the forums are pretty dang good.

Yeah some good ideas. I think the printer-friendly thing is probably the most do-able. Sorting perhaps. But Ben's point is good, implementing those features takes manpower, and we definitely don't have any to spare at the moment. :) In the future though, hopefully. Also, see if this feature can go into your to-do list:P I'd like to have a feature to list the number of resulting threads per page, so I can see 50 returns if I want to wait it out, or 5 if I don't mind fliping next page for the next sets of result.

Understood about the man-power issue. I am glad that you value this feature as much as I do, but put please do put this into the to-do list, somehow, and that would do it for me:P Just try your best, and keep up the good work! Also, see if this feature can go into your to-do list:P I'd like to have a feature to list the number of resulting threads per page, so I can see 50 returns if I want to wait it out, or 5 if I don't mind fliping next page for the next sets of result.

something like voting could be nice ... so there was no work applided to it. I know it could be use in nasty ways ..... but why not try it anyway.

It would be great if x persons say that a post is outdated, and the post was removed.something like voting could be nice ... so there was no work applided to it. I know it could be use in nasty ways ..... but why not try it anyway.

You can already alter the number of results per page on your preference page.

People already can post "doesn't work with head" or the like on a post or a resource if they see it. Also a post from a long time ago denotes its outdated and GG Search engine can already limit the time frame from yesterday, to last week to last month to last year.
On the other side you also have people like me who say "oh that was what was tried before and didn't work." or "That doesn't work now, but I can make it work" I would hate to see posts or resources with dated, but good information on a not so common topics deleted.
For enhancements I would like to see the Plan search be broken off into a seperate search from "resources" I really don't like seeing tons of plans from a few people who said they were going to fix something but never did when I want the resource that actually had the code.
Just my two cents.

1) Be notified by mail when a new thread was submitted to a Forum I subscribe.
But I could also add "mark this thread as read" instead of just mark all as read.

The main thing I really miss is :1) Be notified by mail when a new thread was submitted to a Forum I subscribe.
But I could also add "mark this thread as read" instead of just mark all as read.

The problem with that one is data storage. Instead of N entries, one for each user, you have N*M entries, one for each user for each thread! There are a LOT of threads... And a lot of users. I dunno about you but a million row table just for read marking seems kind of goofy. :)

Ohhhh I was wondering if someone could make a quality check on some of the post .... I mean I have found 10 post where a person just say all kinds of screaw up things - and really out date bugs which is fixed - and things where the posted code has come in the code. I do not say that people don't should have the credit for the work ... but put the on a honor list ... or give them honer point beside there name. - sorry for the typo's .... I have been working for 3 days in a row - not very healthy :(

Could one use a kind of cookie for this (NxM matrice)- I mean most of us post readers use the same computer

Since most forums have new threads posted almost every day, I don't think that would be a very good thing to notify you of anyways.

I don't think it would make sense to have them email you (or display information in some other way) based upon the results of checking a cookie on your computer because the cookie probably is only read when you go to the site.Since most forums have new threads posted almost every day, I don't think that would be a very good thing to notify you of anyways.
