Tattoo Mesh Skinning Tool goes LicenseWare

I just noticed that there is no texturing forum, so I posted this here.
For those of you that dread removing texture seams Tattoo is a tool that makes the process much easier. You can now use it for free in many situations, but it is cheap to license anyway, 25 GDP. This tool is simialar to BodyPaint2 and DeepPaint3D, high end (cost) tools that let you paint directly onto 3D meshes. I was pointed to this program in the Lightwave forums by some experienced texture artists who recommend it for texture seam removal and will be trying it out tonight.

Updated the price for the commercial license.

Hardly awe inspiring is it?

I tried this out quite a while ago, and suffice to say it wasn't good imo. It just didn't feel right, maybe because I'm used to sitting down with photoshop and a nice layout of my uv there. ah well.Hardly awe inspiring is it?

I probably won't have a chance to try it for a few nights though.

Craig, I don't plan on doing complete textures in Tatoo. However, fixing texture seams is a pain and I have seen Tattoo put to good use by other texture artists specifically for fixing seams. I will still be using Photoshop 6 primarily. In fact the Lightwave forum users who have recommended it also mentioned that it does not replace Photoshop and that they use both apps together.I probably won't have a chance to try it for a few nights though.

as a supplemntal tool for speeding up the process of making high quality textures, it does help.. it also allows for quick marking out of key texture areas, and helps to smooth out a vertex lighting texture pass a little more selectivly than just blurring it in photoshop. (if people don't know what the vertex lighting pass is, ask and I will explain)

I have checked out tattoo and for the price, it does what I need it to do (fix seams).. it is not as snazzy as paint effects in maya, but it gets the job done. Sadly, screen projection mode for gaussian blur is a little flakey, and if you go into sreen projection mode and have dual monitors, it will crash (at least on my setup it does)as a supplemntal tool for speeding up the process of making high quality textures, it does help.. it also allows for quick marking out of key texture areas, and helps to smooth out a vertex lighting texture pass a little more selectivly than just blurring it in photoshop. I'm going to give this a try myself tonight. Good timing, I really need to re-paint the UVs on some of my models. Atlas mapping plus SurfaceBaking in Lightwave works good, but produces completely un-editable maps...
