Please let me know

I am an 3d artist and am looking to make something that i can send to potential employers so that they can see my work in realtime.
i am considering purchasing the license for torque but am honestly scared that thhere will be too muuch programming involved to use it successfully.
Is the Torque engine easy enough to use for someone with absolutely NO programming skills and no time to learn programming.
The price is right but I'm just scared that I will waste the money because I won't be able to do anything on the programming side.

"This isn't the engine you're looking for..."

Try 3D Game Studio - very "non-programmer" friendly engine that one is. ;-)

James,

If you could drop me an email (click on my name to see my profile) we may be able to work something out.

What would we be "working out"(not meaning to sound offensive)?
I'd just like to know a little more before getting to the emailing phase.

You dont need to by the engine to show off art, you could use any demo, to show off art. If you want someone to help you with the scripting, offer art in return.

I would upload my current build for your art discards thats how good my art is. heh

art = media/ip

Ace-
why don't you do that and i will see what i can do to contribute "artwise". if you could tell me how your build would handle animation it would be really great.
oh yeah where would i download it from after you upload it?
Oh and I use Maya. So if there is anything specific that you know regarding the animation export process let me know.
And would .map format work for buildings? I would probabaly be using Cartography Shop 4.1 for that. or Maya.

Kirby- Does 3D Gamestudio suck?

James, I didn't see any work samples or bio for you in your profile, though I was interested to see if you'd like to volunteer with a project to gain experience(and the art you create you can of course present in a portfolio to another company down the road). I also didn't see an email address, so if you are interested, please email me at ted@digitalflux.com. Any art samples you have to show would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ted- I am new to the community here and haven't finished my profile or anything yet. But I will probably have some samples up soon. And, unfortunately I don't think that I can spend much time doing anything on a volunteer basis at the moment. I am scrambling to try and figure out how I can get a paying position using my art skills. I just got a BASA in electronic imaging and graphics. Now my wife wants me to "GETTAJOB!!!"

I was thinking about getting torque engine so I could just plug my models in and then make an executable that I could send to people.

Maybe I should just join the french foriegn legion. :(

Well, if it's money you want(well, who doesn't want money? lol), then while you look for a F/T job, I suggest you go around looking for little odds and ends freelance stuff. People are willing to pay a couple bucks for things, and if you do it here and there, it won't add up to all that much, but it's still money, and you also get a "professional" portfolio to show off.

You can also do small gigs for people for free and show that off, since logos and stuff are still used commercially(I used to tell people in the begining to pay me by allowing me to use the logo in my portfolio to get more business). Track down web designers you know, or that your friends know, and see if they need graphics done. Buttons, GUI's, logos, etc. It'll get you a nice little start... Hope that helps, and good luck to ya! =)

James, what I was suggesting was the same as what others mentioned, I was going to point you towards some demo executables and give you a bit of info on how they work. I was also going to ask to see some of your sample work, and see if you might be interested in demonstrating in your gallery work that is part of a larger project, meaning that you could possibly work on a selected object in our environment, and if it met standards, we could use it, and you could have a good entry into your gallery.

I normally don't do things like that in public, which is why I asked you to send me an email, since you didn't enter it into your profile.
