Stats on game genres and general (indie) marketing links?

I am enlisting the help of my girlfriend who has a marketing background/edu, but I dont know of many places to for her to start doing research. Any tips? I am looking for stats on different genres of games, general indie marketing strategies, etc.

Very old post here, but have you looked at the survey stats included with the Indie Game Development Survival Guide? It's a good book. The survey was of ~60 developers with a nice range of questions including game genres and marketing strategies, but also technology and management choices and general success of the business.
