Is it possible to get the engine without buying it (trial versio

I was hoping there whould be a trial-version or a demo of the engine so that I could test it and see how good it is.

I guess since this is used in games like tribes2 I doubt its free :)

For 100 bucks, its practically free and well worth it. Considering that, you cant go wrong.

At least at one point the plan was to release a free demo verson you could "mod", but I don't know if they're still doing that. Personally I think it would be a bad idea, but that's just me.

I dont have a 100$ to spend. I just want to learn a bit more about game development and make a small game.

Well in all fairness, there are a ton of free engines out there - CrystalSpace, Genesis3D and of course the almighty Quake. What the $100 really buys you is a cutting edge professional engine - Quake is dated and the others are dony by hobbyists.
