Alright, I just re-installed Fedora Core 2 (I ahd to format, kids, plz do not chmod your /usr directory to 666 and when crap goes wrong forget you did it D: foolish me) Now, I have eclipse away and running, but one task still remains, I need to transfer all my work from Win XP (ntfs) to my linux side. Seeing as Fedora Core 2 doesn't have NTFS support, I have to do it another way, oh and did I mention I have one cd-r disk (700 meg), and I have too move around 3 gigs of content and music? So my question to you is, how in the world do I transfer it all to linux?

That was my idea, but instead use partition magic, but don't i loose data?

I installed and ran this fine under Fedora 2188 kernel earlier this week

Do you have to convert a partition from NTFS to (whatever) Linux format, with the data intact or do you only need to have access to the NTFS partition for file-copy operations ??

Doesn't Fedora allow you to recompile the kernel (isn't that thing built upon RedHat ?)??

. . .well no need now seeing as i've lost all my work, patition magic descided to format that partition, and seeing as it had all of my files and my windows on it. Can't wait to see the look upon my bosses face now =\. Oh and it didn't even partition it corectly either, it put errors into the partitions, so i've gotta start coding from scratch, yet again.

Well any software like Partition Magic will tell you to back up first since it can't ensure the data won't be lost. That said though, its odd you had that happen. I use PArtition Magic all the time to resize partitions without losing data.

Sorry to hear it :(

Well, it didn't just delete everything, it put errors on the hard-drive, and also, i have no where to back it up too lol! Now i gotta start on all 3 projects from scratch heh.

Chris, there are software that could rescue data, even after a bad format.
I have seen it for NTFS and FAT, there should be some for linux format aswell...

I can't remember from the top of my head (@work right now), I could post some links when I get home ...

Seems like I'm a bit late here, but can't you just recompile the Linux kernel that came with Fedora Core and choose NTFS read support?

I haven't used Linux in over a year, but I seem to recall NTFS read support being an optional component of the kernel that you can easily put in with a simple recompile.

Well, you see partition magic deleted all my work, i went into recorvery console to look at the format tables, and they were all free like 56900 and 56899 free, (examples) its all gone, oh well, i'll have it back up within a week, if i work hard, hopefully he wount be too mad =).

Bah your advice didn't! I doubt i'll loose my job, my boss loves me, and besides! Look on the bight side by doing this I can work even hard and prob find some bugs I overlooked, I mean besides, I love linux, and windows was full of spyware n crap anywho (I was gonna format soon anyway), i'll just reinstall it then reinstall the boot laoder (i gotta remember how do that). I love coding anyway, so its no biggy, i've already got 1/3rd my stuff back n settled in, but I still lost alot of mp3's. (BTW I forgot to defrag lol, and the disks had a few errors on um, few hard boots =\ ) Another day another line of code!

Oh, and sorry for double post, but I was thinking about the Fat32 anyway, I was going to format and then resize windows for about 10 gigs for fat32, then just hold my data on that so both linux and windows could read it. I am hesitating because i donno how to reinstall the bootloader ;)
