A Greek Mythology game (It's not another RTS I promise!)

by Ken · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 05/18/2004 (3:23 pm) · 20 replies

This is a Greek Mythology game played Third-Person. You play as one of the gods of War. You have to pass vigorous trials and pass many tests to become the greatest god of War, but something happens to the lands, the Patomas is gaining power over the lands and it's your job to restore power to the Lands you own.
What do you think??

I have always thought something not unlike Dynasty Warriors, employing ancient mediterrainian mythology and heroes would be entertaining. As far as I know there is only

Alex, did the gods smite you before you could finish your sentence, or what? :)

Ken, that could be cool.

That's right.

There is only. :P

But I think a greek Dynasty Warriors would be phenomenally cool. :)

I see, I must play this "only". It does sound phenomenal and I shall not rest until I have mastered it.

(that's right everyone, it's spammy-time in GG land, yay!!)

Yes. There is Only. I think I had halfway finished my post, got distracted, then decided to work on something else, but noticed the unfinished post and just hit send...

I was thinking a while back about a RPG, kind of like Morrowind only about the Greek/Roman mythos. Of course it would be 1st person, since I don't care for 3rd person games myself.

The Story

War God is set in Roman times (so you will be seeing alot of chariot races and fights with action beyond your belief). Arom a 'Human' to the Greek Gods wnats to become the most powerful human alive and will ever be - so you will be in bloody fights and in chariot races - so he becomes a fugitive to the Gods and sends all their people to destroy you! You, Arom, will fight Gods, Goddess, Medusa, the Romans, and Mother Earth herself. Once Arom is banished from the city he seeks revenge and passes treacherous and vigorous paths and unearthly happenings. You think you can handle it? Well you can probably with weapons like this!

The Weapons

War God has over 15 weapons that will be used throught the game - like use Medusa's head to stone people -!

The Spawn:
The Spawn is a huge sword that can do tons of damage also confuses enemys (if they stay alive after one blow - HA!)

The DisSpine
Umm... in the name The DisSpine umm you can probably figure out what is does but for those idiots out there because everone out there needs to know everything about the game!... It takes out spines... there I said it... I need some time to think this over... :(

The Reckless
This weapon is less umm... worst than the The DisSpine but the the same havoc on the body of your foe. Well this sword has spiks on the sword.

By use medusa's head to stone people do you mean to get them stoned? or to throw at them?

Why is it set in Roman times but with Greek gods? Shouldn't you use the Roman gods, in this case? Is Arom trying to take the place of the existing War God, Mars (or Ares if you are using the Greek gods)?

Medusa isn't the only mythical monster that would make a good adversary... how about Cerberus, Proteus, the other Gorgons (Medusa's siblings), the Titans, Cyclops, etc. Is mother earth going to be represented by one of the greek or roman gods? Or is that something else entirely?

If you do want to incorporate Roman or Greek religion, I recommend pantheon.org as a good overview of the various Gods and heroes.

As a Art Historian by trade I love pointing out errors, or attempting to fix them.

Since there is already a God of war Aries (Mars in Roman) why not make a game about Spartans. They prouded themselves for being the fiercest Greeks ever.

Most importantly if you are gonna use mythology get it right or people like me will be nitpicking at you

Look you don't get it do you? Arom, is a human destined to become a God and if you new anything about the game (which you don't know a lot about it) HE FIGHTS GODs AND GODDESS. So umm ... if you read it fully then umm ... you'll understand what he is doing. Now what you were saying about Spartans, if they respected their Gods then they wouldn't want to try to be one the would respect them to know they are more powerful and let alone, HE WANTS REVENGE! I think a Spartan wouldn't be stupid enough to take on the Gods so naturally we didn't put in the Spartan in the game. Do you understand our reasoning or do I need to spell it out in bigger letters?

Lol. That game description just reminded me so much of www.realultimatepower.net. Tell me, does this Arom like to wail on his guitar?

Seriously... a human killing gods? How does that work? Surely they could just smite him down.

Http://www.vermilliongames.com/mb_en_main.htm This game is very good for an Indie game. I would definetly like to see a Greek Mythology based game with a full story though...
